Greenpeace Ranks Apple Highest Among Tech Companies: Whaaaa?

Given their long and storied feud, you would think Captain Ahab would have a better chance than Apple of being accepted by Greenpeace. Believe it or not, the impossible has actually happened.

Indeed, Greenpeace has ranked Apple highest on the list of eco-conscious tech companies. In fact, they got a perfect score thanks to their commitment to eliminate all toxic PVC and BFRs from their product line. Has Apple finally got the Greenpeace endangered species–protected monkey off its back? [Greenpeace via The Loop]

I could easily imagine that those tree hugging hippies would be Apple fanbois!!!1…

They aren’t saying Apple is great, they are just saying they are the best in a bad industry.

Seriously, its fact! you’ve seen the Apple ads for the enviro friendly Macbooks!

The people who Apple target, people who like to be in on the latest fad, care about the environment, thus it stands to reason that Apple would target that.

(by saying it’s a fad, I’m not knocking the environment, or endeavors to protect it, or Apple for being at the top of this list, I’m knocking the celebs that went out and bought 10 priuses each when they came out, even though A supercharged Mercedes luxury car was voted green car of the year over the prius because the merc was more envirofriendly to manufacture and recycle, same reason Apple gets top marks here.)

It’s nice to see that Greenpeace is actually giving companies credit where credit is due, rather than giving them a hard time just for the hell of it. It’s also nice to see that maybe Greenpeace is actually achieving something by shaming companies with a poor “Green” record.

For the last couple of years Greenpeace has been hammering Apple on their “Green Companies” rating list, and it seems the message has got through to Apple, and Apple has taken steps to boost their rating. Just compare Apple’s packaging from 5 or 6 years ago to now, the amount of packaging has greatly reduced.
