Avatar, the soon king of movies, vs Modern Warfare 2, the king of video games. Here’s a look at how their earnings stack up by the numbers. The biggest surprise? Modern Warfare had a significantly larger ad budget. [bm]
ugh, suddenly I understand why games are so lame these days, marketing:dev ratio…
“hey, if we could get dev costs down to nothing, that would be $250m for marketing! with that I’m sure we could convince millions of idiots to buy nothing for $60!”
As much as I loved Avatar and Xbox games in general, these figures made me a little sad. Just think what could be achieved if the dollars spent by everyone on going to see a movie like Avatar or buying Call of Duty were channelled into eliminating preventable diseases or providing clean drinking water in Africa. I’m not saying don’t enjoy going to the movies or playing games but imagine what could be achieved if everyone sent the money for one game or movie to these causes.
