What do you get when you mix a dedicated GPU, 50FPS Crysis gaming, a Core 2 Duo, an 11-inch screen, and a $US800 price tag? An absurd(ly powerful) little laptop, which I – and apparently Alienware – am not comfortable calling a netbook.
We first saw the M11x back at CES where we were told it’d hit the market in about a month, for under $US1000 dollars. Well, a tipster sent Engadget a little bit of info scraped from the HTML of the notnetbook’s official product page, which is currently holding some kind of “Guess the Price” sweepstakes:
The Alienware M11x, with over 6.5 hours of battery life and weighing under 4.5 lbs. will start at an amazing $US799! Leave it to the folks at Alienware to enable truly mobile performance gaming at an affordable price.
Er, contest’s still open, folks!

Friday, January 29, 2010 at 11:50 AMWell with a quick 2second price comparision on the base modles of the Alienware Laptops. Both the m15x and the m17x are $1000 more expensive to buy in Australia (not taking into account the exchange rate)
At the current exchange rate the m17x is 1,699.00 USD = 1,909.94 AUD…
So by that rational the m11x will be around $1799.00 for an 11″ netbook? give me a break.

Friday, January 29, 2010 at 12:51 PMI hear that! It really should be around $950AUD at most (in theory), but in practice there’s the massive “you’re in Australia so we hate you” tax. You might find this article from Lifehacker interesting tho http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2010/01/comgateway-allows-consolidated-us-shopping/
It’s my plan to get this at a decent price.

Friday, January 29, 2010 at 4:35 PMI do hate the “having the nicest beaches” tax more than anyone, but it is NOT a netbook, its just an ultraportable laptop!
if it can play crysis at 50fps it is NOT a netbook.
high power, small form factor, cheap price.
PICK TWO!
it does seem a bit heavy tho, my dell 13″ (which is about the right compromise between size and power and price) weighs less than that

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 11:20 AMyeah not complaining about the US Price, I think that’s awesome, and if I can get one here for the same I’ll do it in a heartbeat…. but for the “AU Markup” seams unreasonable

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 4:09 PMAs feared the Australian price is way beyond what it should be $1599 where the US model is effectively $900AUD – a $700 markup that cannot be explained by anything other than profiteering by Dell.
They just lost my crew.
