Let me preface this by saying: This isn’t new. In fact, it’s quite old. But yesterday I managed to get my hands on a Star Trek Phaser universal remote, and it’s so cool, I just had to share with you guys.
The Phaser control was a promotional item given away to celebrate the launch of Star Trek: The Original Series on HD DVD. Obviously we all know what happened to HD DVD, and so Paramount sent out the leftovers to media with the recent release of the Star Trek movies on Blu-ray.
The remote, which actually makes phaser noises and lights up when you push the channel up/down trigger, can control up to three devices – namely your TV, DVD and satellite box. I haven’t actually tested it as a remote – I’ve been too busy blasting everyone in the office with the phaser noises. But there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work – it’s a learning remote. There’s a booklet full of codes, and if they on’t work you can train the remote manually.
