OrbLive’s Mysterious Disappearance From The App Store

2:50PM December 9, 2009 | Rosa Golijan

After being available for quite some time, the OrbLive iPhone app is suddenly missing from the App Store. Orb confirmed that the app was in fact removed by Apple, but otherwise they’re just as surprised about this as we are.

There’s currently no word on exactly what the reason for the app’s removal is, but speculation could be made that it’s over the live TV streaming functionality. Granted it would be a bit odd to do anything about that now since the feature has been available for a bit over a year.

Ah, the confusion of App Store dramarama. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see how this one ends. [Orb]

Its quite a good application. I went from the free demo to the paid version. Transcoding of Dvix movies on the fly means I don’t have to convert them and suck them into itunes first if I’m at home or where ever there is wifi. With access to live TV from my pinnacle HD tuner card, I can listen to my music on a 16G touch (way more than 16G), pictures, PDF support its a great tech display for the ipod touch and I find it one of the best app’s I have on my touch.

As of this morning, Dec 23, Orb on iPhone is refusing to stream the live TV signal that I’ve been using at work for about a year. I’m getting an error stating to go to orb and download a new codec. The (just updated from iTunes) app also instead of letting me choose live TV instead was trying to get me to record the live program. Wierd…

It’s letting me watch programs previously recorded – just not giving access to the live view – I’m a news junkie and so watch cable news all day, so this is a big deal to me :(
