Windows 7 Family Pack Launching In AU… For A Limited Time

Looks like the constant online bitching has finally paid off – Microsoft this morning has announced that it will be releasing a limited run of Windows 7 Family packs in Australia. The packs contain three licenses to upgrade your Windows PC to Windows 7 for $249. The catch is that it’s a limited offer, with the vague disclaimer of “until stocks run out”.

If you’re currently cursing Microsoft because you went out and bought three individual Windows 7 licenses before today, fear not! Microsoft haven’t abandoned you. They’re offering you three complimentary Wireless comfort desktop keyboard and mouse bundles to ease your suffering. All you need to do is prove you either purchased three licenses in one hit, or have three separate receipts showing three copies of Windows 7 charged to the same credit card number.

The Family pack bundle will only be available through the following retailers: Betta Electrical, Bing Lee, David Jones, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Myer, Officeworks, Retravision, The Good Guys, WOW Sight and Sound.

Sadly this is still a ridiculous offer. Granted not everyone can do this, but I contacted my cousin in America, she mailed the 3 Pack down to me and it cost me 160 USD which is $175 Australian dollars. So how is it costing Microsoft, who can ship in bulk, $75 Australian dollars more per copy?

A vast majority of the people who complained did it online… would it really cost Microsoft that much more to offer the deal for the $150 USD and allow people to download it instead? Like the student editions?

Its just a plain and simple rip-off.

  • Is there a proper link for this, so we can see which version it is? (I’m presuming HP, but never assume is a fair attitude with MS…)

  • ummm...yeah

So three complimentary Wireless comfort desktop keyboard and mouse bundles which is worth just over $150 at MSY in return for paying something like $300 extra. At least it is something… I guess.

Fortunately “It’s Not Cheating” provides 2 licences for $50 a pop and you can get the third from the Microsoft student shop for another $50 so thats 3 licences for $150 AUD if you have (or borrow) an .edu.au email.

My Dick Smith store just got it today. We’re selling it for $237, little bit better than RRP.

  • I just called those wonderful people at m$ about the wirless keyboards, and they denied knowing anything about it, and asked me to find a microsoft site that proved it. Anyone at giz know where I can find some solid proof they are offering the keyboard and mice??

    • All that was in the press release was this:
“To see if they qualify**, customers should contact Microsoft Customer Service on 13 20 58.”

Good luck! Let us know how you go.

      • Just to let you know the guy I spoke to at microsoft this morning was a little more informed than my friend yesterday. All good!
