The Hover Dam Bypass Will Make You Ooooh And Aaaah

There’s not much to say about these images of the Hover Dam Bypass except expletives mixed with a dozen shades of amazement. It’s not the longest or the tallest or the biggest or the complexest, and still, it’s stunning:

These images of the bridge — called the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge — were shot in September 2009 as the 323m twin-rib concrete arch advances towards its late 2010 opening. The $US240 million, 610m bridge is part of a larger project, a 5.6km corridor that begins in Clark County, Nevada and ends in Mohave County, Arizona. The drive over the new bridge should be pretty spectacular… but how many tourists will stop in the middle of the bridge to take photos ?
But I’ll miss driving across the actual dam wall – it was something I remember well from the 60′s, and have repeated several times more reecently – even if there are many small bumper benders every day!

I hope when they were putting the main towers in they didn’t drill into the Allspark…..that would cause ALL sorts of trouble!!!
