PowerZoa Would Be Great To Remotely Turn Off Your Stove

Why? Because you could use the device to remotely cut power to any gadget that is plugged in to an outlet.

It’s only a prototype at the moment (one of many that have come out lately focused on saving energy), which probably explains why it still looks like a child’s toy. Not a good idea when you consider that it sits between the wall outlet and the plug of your gadget. At any rate, PowerZoa transmits details on your power usage to a secure website, where you can use the interface to turn specific devices on or off.

Sooner or later something like this will be widely available, and there will be a mobile phone app that would allow me to control everything. And when that happens, I will be all over it. [Powerzoa via DVICE]

this is exactly what we need. but it should have a clip that goes on the main power feed (and any solar/wind feeds too) so that you can report on total power taken from the grid and other sources and total fed back to the dgrid, and then use these little guys to get a break down by device. in the short term, i’m sure that you wouldn’t have one of these on every socket, and some things don’t use sockets (like my air con) so you would get a report like “1Kw in use, 50 watts from the toaster and 100 watts from the TV, the rest in from an unknown source”

they should probably work on incorperating them in to power and light switches, and have an inline solution for hard wired devices.

Would be great for turning things on too. Don’t know if you’re going to be working back late at work? When you’re about to leave, turn the air conditioning on, and when you get home it’ll be nice and cool.

    • And in winter, turning the electric blanket on so that you can jump into bed without shivering for the first five minutes.

  • Ovens plug into outlets?

    • Actually, I don’t know. What powers them?

      • Every oven I’ve ever seen has been hardwired in, due to the amount of current they draw.
