Blockquote: iPrimus Responds To Telstra’s New Plans

Gizmodo AU

iPrimus sent out a statement from Marketing and Product General Manager Andrew Sims in response to yesterday’s announcement from Telstra on their broadband pricing overhaul. Normally I wouldn’t do this, but it’s Friday, and I love me some smacktalk!

“Online gaming and video usage in Australia has been significant for several years so for Telstra to only just realise this and update their plans accordingly, shows their lack of understanding and commitment to their customers. Yet their best offers announced today still comes nowhere near matching plans offered by the rest of the industry.

“For example, for the same price and at the same speed, the iPrimus Starter Plus ADSL2+ plan offers five times more data allowance than the Telstra plan. I struggle to understand how they can justify the price differential to their customers.”

Oh, snap!

Funny how there is only one other outlet reporting on this. Some idiot over at another site is talking about the price cut as the broadband wars “getting ugly”, WTF?

At least Telstra doesn’t have stupid headline claims like 90GB then in the fine print say that 60GB needs to be used at night. They may be a little bit more expensive but there’s nothing confusing about their download limits.

Thing is, iirc limits were put on what telstra could charge for its internet and phone services due to the fact that in reality they dont have to pay for renting the lines from other companies to provide the service. IIRC it was the ACCC that put these limits inplace, but because the companies who rent the lines rent it for considerably cheaper then telstras costs, then they can charge less. Now im not saying what i have said is correct, i just remeber being told something along the lines of what i have said

Yeah, there must be a point at which Telstra can argue that they offer nationwide service and not just cherry pick the cheap and easy customers only, however, surely they can be vaguely competitive..
Even with these price/Gb changes they’re laughably well off the pace.
