Technologizer excavated the reviews from every major publication at the time, and the early reactions are kind of amazing given how people felt about Vista just a few months after launch (the Walt Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg called it “the best version of Windows that Microsoft has produced”). Only Forbes’ Stephen Manes’ ventured that Vista is “at best mildly annoying and at worst makes you want to rush to Redmond, Wash. and rip somebody’s liver out”.
Given the massive public beta for Windows 7 and all of the telemetry data Microsoft’s been able to gather before launch (among a ton of other factors), I really doubt 7′s gonna be Vista all over again, even if Steve Ballmer himself feels the need to leave Microsoft a little bit of room to manoeuvre. Still, Vista’s a solid illustration of how different a product can be for a handful of isolated reviewers than it turns out to be for everybody else. [Technologizer]

well I used vista at launch, and it was shit.
Report PermalinkI’ve been using the win7 RC, and its awesome.
and trust me, it isn’t major changes that have made the difference. so while they look the same, I still say win7 is alot better.

I’ve been running a Vista Media Centre for the past 2 years and never had a problem with any device I plugged into it including some really old printers and cameras.
I have Win 7 on a HP Netbook and sure it has some nice new bling but I currently have no reason to upgrade my other machines. Maybe when I upgrade the hardware.

Got Vista at launch. Have been running windows 7 for months now. If you ask me, they are incomparible. With vista it took me days to get all my drivers installed. With windows 7, it actually did that all automagically by itself, much to my complete amazement! And it installed itself, its drivers, AND all my proprietry drivers in about 45 minutes. Thats more like it I say! Vista is some sort of cancer for computers.

Don’t understand how so many people hated vista. It was just xp but looked alot better, and had heaps more features? Majority of things were able to be done easier. Windows 7 is just vista to me but runs a bit better and has some extra features?

I bought Vista with a new PC, and it ran like a dream after the initial nVidia driver incompatibilities.
Report PermalinkCan barely imagine going back to XP, especially after using W7 for a while.
