Remember a couple of weeks ago how we told you that Microsoft wants people to host Windows 7 launch parties? Well, turns out we applied, and we’re going to be hosting our own little Windows 7 launch party in a couple of weeks. Our party package just arrived, and it’s filled with Windows 7 stuff:
Here’s a rundown of what’s inside the box:

A copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
A Signature Edition copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) – the signature is Ballmer’s
A poster with Windows 7 desktop design
A deck of playing cards with Windows 7 desktop design
A puzzle with Windows 7 desktop design
Ten tote bags with Windows 7 desktop design
A packet of Windows 7 napkins
We’ll be hosting our Media Mania party on October 22 and will have a few limited places for Giz readers to come along and have a beer with the team at Allure (including our company mascot, Al, seen holding the Windows 7 poster below). Stay tuned for more in the next few days…

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 2:09 PMi’m confused about Win7.. why is there all this hype about the backgrounds/wallpapers? won’t people just change them anyway?
i didn’t think that a wall paper was the key aspect of an OS..

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 2:48 PMThe backgrounds change all by themselves, every 5-60mins and the more you have the more it changes into different backgrounds… i guess… I like it… Have no idea if vista did this, couldn’t care either…

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 2:12 PMNothing says party more than a deck of playing cards, a jigsaw puzzle and some napkins. Where is all that crap going to end up?
Steve
Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 2:18 PMSo let me get something straight here: are you supposed to give your guests empty tote bags or do they want you to go out and buy your own things to fill them with? There is not much of a party in that pack, no sir.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 2:31 PMBut the question is, will there be party poppers and BALLOONS?
Elly Hart
Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 3:27 PMIt’s BYO party poppers and balloons.
Travis Young
Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 2:44 PMat least Intel send out high powered rockets! Now that’s what I call a party popper!

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 4:07 PMYay! I got mine yesterday. Already installed on my 4 pcs.
Yeah… I dunno about sitting down to do a puzzle at a party. A bottle of vodka would have been better, or they could have included a goon bag instead of the shopping bags.
Still, can’t complain. It’s a first for Micro$oft giving out free copies of Windows!

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 4:31 PMComputer nerds playing strip poker. After getting all excited by a new operating system. That is sooo wrong.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 4:36 PMprobably should have included the friends you don’t have if you’re throwing a Windows 7 party.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 5:31 PM“Well, turns out we applied”
may be a parting ‘gift’ from Chris…

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 8:08 PMJust was wondering if the included version of Windows 7 in this “Party Pack” is free forever or you have a limited time (like 30-90 days) to buy a genuine version?
Thanks
Elly Hart
Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 9:27 PMIt’s a full 32-bit version — there’s no time limit.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 9:54 PMman your lucky free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit. thats sweet. i applied but got rejected i had a killer party planned aswell
Jay
Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 9:05 AMI got a reject as well. Dunno what the criteria for selection is. Anyways, the Party Pack doesn’t seem very impressive, I guess Microsoft provides much more at Expos than in this party pack.
bob
Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 12:29 PMAre you kidding? “not impressive”!?!? It comes with free windows! That costs a lot!!!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 3:07 PMWill there be strippers at the party. I’ll only come if there are stippers.

Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 1:42 AMStrippers or not, I just got my box and it seems like it installs very well”meaning multiple machines”. For those who are wondering why they got rejected its because when they asked you to fill out your parties invitations they wanted to pick the people who were enthusiastic about the party, not the person who says “well I guess I will have a party for launching Windows 7….Yippppie….I guess.” like most of you sound like. Maybe if you sounded more excited about receiving a long awaited OS and you really wanted to win it would show. Jeeeesh a free os and people still drag there a– and want cheerleaders in a box.

Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:17 AMWow, the long awaited overpriced operating system…which can finally do amazing things like change background every few minutes…which other OS’es have done years ago.
Do you still get fantastic apps in the overpriced OS like calculator and voice recorder? As you don’t get much more than that. btw you have to wipe your previous Windows to install. Great. Does your overpriced MSOffice re-install in Win7 or do you have to buy another one?
Can’t wait to see on Utube how exciting a Windows 7 party is…not

Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 5:53 PMChris your such a utube weenie, is that all you use a computer for.LOL. I actually have had time to play with mine today and some software’s that I use to use that would not work with vista now work with windows 7 like alien skins eye candy which is a plug in for graphic design programs like adobe illustrator and Photoshop. I have also found that the amount of ram that was needed to run vista smooth makes windows 7 run like a rocket because it is much less of a memory hog. Besides I am a Linux user and for the first time I am appreciating a new Windows OS. Never mind what Chris and the others say they are just mad because they didn’t get a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate signature copy three weeks before it hits the shelves. Cheers everyone I think Microsoft has actually created a good OS.
