I’ll admit it: I squealed like a schoolgirl this morning when I saw the Sonos S5 announcement – finally a Sonos solution I could actually afford. At $US399 and controlled by the iPhone, I was entertaining dreams of picking up a few of these bad boys and streaming my music through my house. Then I got the Australian press release and my wallet clenched up tighter than a snare drum.
If you want to pick up the S5 in Australia, the RRP is $799. Or, going at today’s awesome exchange rate, the equivalent of $US725. Sure, we’ve got GST and the US price probably doesn’t include sales tax, plus there are economies of scale to think about. But ultimately, this looks like yet another case of Aussies getting the short end of the stick when it comes to gadget pricing.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 2:41 PMdon’t get me started man. when I was looking at Hi-fi stuff it was all over twice the U.S. price taking into account exchange rate. however I was able to pick them up for around %50 off, or around the same as the US price. so with stuff priced like this, shopping around may be a good idea.

I am stunned at how good this thing sounds. I know there are cheaper options via ebay, but I bought it online for about $450 delivered. This is an absolute bargain! Being a dock, it charges my iphone, rather than draining the battery over wifi. I’m Big Kev excited about it.

Anywhere i plug it into the power.
But the Sonos S5 is best, i got mine for $599 from http://www.platinumav.com.au How good is it? I love it.
