TiVo Now Pushing The Freeview Mantra

If you own a TiVo, you’ll probably notice a slight change happening over the next week or so, as the option to “Watch TV” is twisted to instead say “Watch Freeview”. Confusion FTW!!

Honestly, nothing else changes. Although I’m certain that someone will end up asking me whether the TiVo device will now get more channels because it says the word Freeview. The answer, of course, is no. There is absolutely no consumer benefit to buying Freeview badged equipment. But of course, you guys know that already anyway…

Any TiVo owners out there want to comment on having their UI changed in such a basic and minor way?

Yeah! I was thinking of getting a tivo, but this has completely put me off!

This is another example of TiVo just not getting it. Time for a fully-fledged embargo on TiVo, and on Channel Seven for supporting it.

THIS IS SUCH A BIG FUCKING DEAL

  • Bought my mum a tivo for last xmas. I just know that I’ll be having the ‘how many more channels with freeview’ coversation in the not too distant future.

Might be time to take the pre-emtive ‘telstra’ stance and…. “Isn’t about time you called your mum?”

I’ve been using TiVo since before it was officially released here (modified Series 1 that I got from US in 2005). It’s always said “Watch Live TV”.

“Watch Freeview” is stupid. It’s not even descriptive, because recorded shows are also from “Freeview”. I mean, if I record Seinfeld and watch it from the Now Playing List, does that mean it’s not from Freeview any more? Live describes the function.

Freeview is a joke. The advertising is so cynical “oh, look, Bert and Don Lane, and Graham Kennedy, isn’t television just wonderful!”. We should have a CableCARD system here so TiVo would work with pay.
