Schiau Studios got annoyed at users complaining about paying $US3 for a game. To teach all the whiners a lesson, they raised the price of their game. To $US40.
The increase was only temporary, and the game (Alchemize) has since returned to $US2.99. But it demonstrated a good point: the App Store is super cheap.
In a particularly classy move, any revenues the developers earned during the increased price period go to charity.
It doesn’t get any less expensive than the App Store. Case in point: the same games on the iPhone are cheaper than the PSP version. We’ve got it good right now. Please, whiners. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us. [Network World via IntoMobile]

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 10:00 AMWe’ve really gotten into a bid siutation lately, people seem to think they have the right to everything on the “net” for free…
While I’m a great advocator of opensource projects on the net, not only because they can be customised to meet the individual needs and most are based on solid industry standards, but because they are also generally free, I also realise that you still have to pay for some elements in order to obtain the full results.
Case in point – I’m finding it very hard to find any “free” software for my mini mac (version control and file sync in particualr), where as the PC has dozens, if not more, free options…
But when compared, the price for said apps on the mac tend to be considerably cheaper then those on the PC…
I think people need to get over the idea that everything should be free or that thay have some kind of right to “test drive” everything indefinatly for free and realise that people aren’t going to give up there time (much of which is probably their personal time, which could be better spent with their families) to make software for them, for free.
These people deserve to be rewarded for their efforts and with “push” notifications, it might be possible in the future to pull a “app” of the store and try it for free and if you like it, buy the full version and have it pushed to your phone anyway…
And for god sake! $3 for a game!! I wish the PS3 prices setters would take a long hard look at this model :P
