Phew! Channel 7 Names Second SD Channel ‘7Two’
Praise the Gods! It looks like the rumour that Channel 7 was planning on calling their second digital channel “Channel Mate” was just that – a rumour. Today they confirmed that the second channel will be called 7Two, will be broadcast on channel 72 (of course) and will commence airing on November 1 from noon.
According to MediaHunter, the new channel will air The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Murphy Brown and new episodes of The Jay Leno Show five nights a week, with theme nights and family programming featuring heavily.
Of course, this announcement leaves us wondering – exactly what is Channel Mate then? Could it be a universal remote-like device like I guessed?

It’s great that we’re finally seeing more FTA channels becoming available, but how about some decent programming to go with? A couple of hours of premiere episodes stuck between reruns and reality TV isn’t exactly thrilling my happy pants. Channel Go! already has the nickname “trash TV” in our house…let’s not make a “Trash2″ eh?
Sounds more like a internet digital subscription similar to what foxtel just release… its not a separate channel but more like abc iview…
will we get this in the ACT at launch or be subjected to some regional BS a la one hd (6 months late)
heh, should just be 7wo!
…
i heard this a while back but didn’t think it would go ahead because of the difficulties with sevens rural partner prime because it will muck up there branding.
has anyone noticed they can’t even program their existing channel. How is this one going to differ?
Is there something else more sophisticated than the trance like stupor home shopping leaves one in?
I guess we should be thankful that they didn’t call it “iView 7.0″…….
Come on 7 it’s a new channel; but coronation st, sons and daughters H&A the early years please don’t put us through the same torture that Go does, liven up please.
Prime has not confirmed if it will be running the channel but on Freeview its listed on the prime section. I also think Go! is an alright channel.
What I’m annoyed at is its only for city areas!! Regional WA is not special enough to see this new channel!
