Craigslist Ad A Horrid Excuse For A Human Being

2:40PM October 24, 2009 | Rosa Golijan

If you begin anything with “this might seem strange and offensive”, then stop. Seriously, just stop. Don’t be like this guy who posted on Craigslist searching for a double amputee to be part of his Chewbacca-carrying-C3PO-around Star Wars costume.

Click on the image for a closer look at the ad.

I’m ashamed to even be in the same country as this guy. Geezus freakin’ Christ. [Some Country For Old Men]

To be honest, I cant see whats so wrong with that.

I think it’s worse that you are so offended by someone actually accepting a double amputee as a person that can HAVE FUN in their life.

I can’t imagine a double amputee browsing the site, seeing that ad, and being offended at the idea of the elaborate Halloween costume. If I saw an ad for a black guy or an obese woman required for an acting role I wouldn’t be offended either, and it’s a very similar situation when you realize that amputees can actually accept themselves.

And believe it or not, I know amputees that still live their lives to the fullest; embracing it as what they are now. It’s not a weakness, its a difference, and there’s nothing wrong with using that difference for a great costume, if they so choose to.

I wouldn’t have written this response if you hadn’t ignorantly titled your article “A Horrid Excuse For A Human Being”.

    How…offensive.

I agree. But I guess being offended is the cool thing to do these days.

i don’t think anyone survives a double amputation from the hip considering the femurs are responsible for like half of your bodys red blood cell production

I agree with Jason. If i was an amputee and happened to think it would be a fun costume, does that mean i’m a horrible person too?

To be honest, the thing that’s really offensive is the tone and title of this ‘story’.

Why limit yourself to a double amputee, very restricted market. I mean you could go for a short dwarf, midget or thalidomide victim. You could also ask around Jenny Craig for anyone wanting to loose 20kg, may cost them an arm and a leg. I also had a girlfriend who could put her legs behind her head, and with a bit of gold paint would look the part..I think the costume is awesome, and any one who could fill that suit would have a awesome time…

How can you write for a tech website and not admire that level of dedication to coming up with a truly awesome Star Wars costume?

Sheesh political correctness has gone too far. I suppose my idea of recruiting an army of midgets and sticking fur on them to re-enact the Battle of Endor is also “offensive”.
