Ballmer: “The Internet Is Not Designed For The iPhone”

Is it State the Obvious Day? Steve Ballmer proclaims that the Internet was not designed for a device that wasn’t even a glimmer in Steve Jobs’ eye when the Internet came to be.

Let’s face it, the Internet was designed for the PC. The Internet is not designed for the iPhone. That’s why they’ve got 75,000 applications — they’re all trying to make the Internet look decent on the iPhone.

Only trouble is that I don’t know how those fart apps are making the Internet look decent. [AP via Business Insider]

What I don’t understand is why he’s singling out the iPhone here, when by all accounts it provides one of the best mobile browsing experiences available. Why not say that the internet wasn’t designed for mobile phones in general, or single out Windows Mobile, which struggles to display web pages correctly?

    …oh, right.

This is arrogant and unfounded mud-slinging, and nothing more. The sky is still blue, grass is still green and companies are still making ridiculous statements against their competition. Carry on folks, nothing of worth to see here.

Best mobile browsing experience? Its the most usable in terms of UI, but browsing? Using the latest flash enabled Opera browser on any new HTC device, which most have a screen bigger than 3.8″ at 800×480 is far more usable than the poor excuse for a screen resolution the iPhone has. Lol at you trying though.

If you haven’t noticed, all around the place companies have to make ‘iPhone’ (which are reduced in size and do not contain flash) webpages as the resolution on the iPhone is so small, its a waste of time to view normal websites.

      Stop “mud-slinging” ;-)

I know Mr Balmy make Bill Gates feel normal, but isn’t it time for him to go and destroy another company?

Hang on, I didn’t think Microsoft designed the Internet, so what has Microsoft got to do with it? Oh yeah that’s right, they have Internet Explorer, maybe iPhone Safari would be better off browsing for wild animals in the African Jungle.
