If you’re not getting the software update prompt, you can download it directly from Apple here for Snow Leopard: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL947 and here for Leopard: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL946
13″ MBP September 2009, the HDD would click maybe every 30 seconds but wasn’t that noticeable unless you were sleeping next to it. The update seems to make them less frequent.
