I think the tech works like the movie theatre 3D nowadays, all in all it will be gimmicky and require players that can handle the dual outputs.

I'm out until they can get rid of the glasses. Like the ones on "Paycheck" (Ben Afleck movie)

I saw Up in 3D and it didn't bother me at all. It wasn't a hugely exagerated effect. It was subtle and added to the overall immersion. I like the idea of 3D television and programming if it is used appropriately.No company is going to successfully sell a tv that makes 20+% of its audience sick. They'll make changes and improvements until most viewers are happy with the outcome.

Personally 3D stuff makes me sick but that's not why I disapprove. I don't like 3D because it gives bad directors (Michael Bay) even more reason to not develop characters or create dialogue. Shots become set ups for 3D shots of shit flying at you just to wow you with effects. Hollywood does not need to get farther away from what makes good movies by embracing yet another gimmick.

Uh dude? The world is 3D. Your eyes each see a different image all the time. 3D in the 50's was hard to watch because they didn't understand convergence and were limited by the available technology.

Stereography has advanced a lot in 50 years and is now a fantastic experience when done well.

@spider2544: Hmm... If they simply make a TV that just shows a slightly different image from different angles there will be no glasses involved, your probably thinking of the stuff that uses glasses. We see different images in each eye ALL THE TIME.

Right now, Disney Digital 3-D is the closest thing out there, and works by using polarized, not colored (which do cause issues), glasses.

This approach, in a nutshell, works by running the image at 120hz, and alternating the light used to create every other image. All the odd images are filtered out by one lens, and all the even images are filtered out by the other.

This, as seen by your eyes, is not that much different from simply watching TV at 60hz. Is it perfect? No. Does it work well with no discernible side effects? Basically. Its the best we got right now, and damn, is it still pretty good.

@spider2544: I have to agree with you on that, not from any real knowledge of it, but from my own experience.

I can stand maybe a half hour 3-D show at an amusement park, but anything longer than that throws me into panic attacks due to my brain being confused by depth perception.

3-D should be left a novelty for the occasional movie or amusement park show... at least until it doesn't involve tricking your brain.

3d didnt work in the 50s it wont work now.

one major reason is that it causes long term damage to your eyes over time as a result of making each eye see a different image. this is also the reason people get headaches and get nassia as well.

the whole 3d thing to me is a joke, and i hope the fad ends soon.

And? 3D in the home is nowhere near the same paradigm shift that colour and HD were. Because of the size of the screen and numerous other factors, 3D probably will never catch on in the home market in a big way.
