I’ve been a little time poor this week, so I’m just rocking out on Rock Band this week in preparations for The Beatles: Rock Band.
Of course, picking up the plastic controller again has got me thinking – what the hell happened to Rock Band 2 in this country? It’s been about 12 months since the first game launched, and considering everyone’s got the instruments now, what’s the hold up with the disc-only sequel?
Considering we’re getting The Beatles: Rock Band at the same time as the rest of the world, our lack of Rock Band 2 is truly perplexing. I even asked David over at Kotaku about this, and he reckons it’s something to do with MTV in the US, and he can’t get an answer out of EA locally. He even went so far as to say he doesn’t think we’ll ever see it here in Australia. I hope that’s not true.

I work at a videogame store – we have no idea either. Although a listing for Rock Band 2 came up in our system recently with a release date of sometime before next year. However, its happened before, and randomly disappeared again. Could be wishful thinking from our buyers.

Just import the game disc (I got it from the US for $40 a few weeks ago) and then get the Beatles: Rock Band instruments, it’s what I plan to do…
Then again that doesn’t work if you’ve got PAL DLC and copy of RB1… :(

Just buy Rock Band 2 from Britain, I got got cheap first hand on ebay. It’s PA, works fine with my aussie xbox, imported the rock band 1 music fine and works with the DLCs I already had.

Just go to CDWOW (dot) com (dot) au and order the PAL version for $90 inc shipping. Works with all DLC and once PSN Point Cards are out, its as simple as importing a UK card and using it to fund your UK account for the RB1 rip code.
(I tried with a credit card but it defaults your billing address to somewhere in the UK so Aussie credit cards are out)
And I agree with IndefiniteImplosion, I’ve already imported my cymbal expansion pack ready for my Beatles kit…

You dont have to import from the US.
The UK disc is actually the disc we would have/will be getting at some point, it even has the australian ratings logo on the disc.
It works with all of the local DLC, and the ACDC expansion transfer code works. They pulled the code for the RB1 transfer from the store, but if you have a UK credit card apparently the transfer option on their store works perfectly for us.
I’ve happily been playing RB2 with my Guitar Hero World Tour drums for months now.

I became an expert on importing rock band into Australia, got the original for PS3, and ended up getting 2 on 360 because its region free, and then you get achievements! Also you can hire out the first game for 360 and have both libraries on one game. I don’t feel bad about doing this because I already own the first game, and they forced me to import the games twice now… (the first one took over a year to come out to Australia, seemingly for a reason I don’t care about as a consumer).

I no the guy that does the PR work for Harmonix, and is doing alot of work with The beatles. He said it basiclly came down to two things. First was shipping costs issues (high cost because we are so far away from everyone) and secondly Guitar Hero entered the market before rock band did.
However, he said that the are trying to get a world wide release which includes australia this time around.

I picked up RB2 from my local Gametraders. As a few people have mentioned, the UK disc even has our rating logo slapped on it, which makes the lack of release even more baffling still.
