Optus iphone clearanceLet the speculation begin: Optus is offering the 16GB iPhone 3G (not the 3GS) for $0 upfront on a 24 month $59 plan. But why?

Is it just because they have way too many left over from last year and they’re trying to get rid of excess stock? Or are they paving the way for something new? Actually, it’s almost definitely the former, but this is an Apple post, so I just thought I’d throw in some random speculation so I’d fit in with all the other online news sites.

If you’re interested, the clearance sale will run “while stocks last”.

This sale has been on for months now unless it recently changed? They defiantly have a lot, I was hoping to get the 3GS when I had my 16GB 3G replaced when it broke, but no luck :(

You can get the 3GS on plans for the same price.

    Same here, Mike.

I recently had my iPhone 3G 16GB repaired under waranty. I was told by one person that I’d get a 3GS as a replacement, but ended up with a new 3G instead.

I got a 16GB 3G when they came out for this price… I really don’t see what the ‘deal’ is…

I got the 3gs on line last week, on the $19 cap which works out about the same

I got my 16Gb iphone last year on a $56 plan $0 upfront and 500Mb download, from Optus

What the? I got my 16 GB 3GS last week from three for a total $49 a month (39 cap +10 handset). That is what you call a deal.

No one said this is any special ‘deal’ for the clearance.

Fair enough people got them for the same price 12 months ago but keep in mind that the current Yes iPhone $59 Cap plan is quite different to the old one. It actually has more included value than the old one. And plus you get unlimited text as well where as the old doesn’t.

How exactly is a mediocre phone on a $59 plan ‘clearing out’? You can get much better phones on lower plans.
