Let the speculation begin: Optus is offering the 16GB iPhone 3G (not the 3GS) for $0 upfront on a 24 month $59 plan. But why?
Is it just because they have way too many left over from last year and they’re trying to get rid of excess stock? Or are they paving the way for something new? Actually, it’s almost definitely the former, but this is an Apple post, so I just thought I’d throw in some random speculation so I’d fit in with all the other online news sites.
If you’re interested, the clearance sale will run “while stocks last”.
[Optus – Thanks Sonny!]

Monday, September 7, 2009 at 10:59 AMThis sale has been on for months now unless it recently changed? They defiantly have a lot, I was hoping to get the 3GS when I had my 16GB 3G replaced when it broke, but no luck :(

I recently had my iPhone 3G 16GB repaired under waranty. I was told by one person that I’d get a 3GS as a replacement, but ended up with a new 3G instead.

Monday, September 7, 2009 at 7:38 PMWhat the? I got my 16 GB 3GS last week from three for a total $49 a month (39 cap +10 handset). That is what you call a deal.

Monday, September 7, 2009 at 8:28 PMNo one said this is any special ‘deal’ for the clearance.
Fair enough people got them for the same price 12 months ago but keep in mind that the current Yes iPhone $59 Cap plan is quite different to the old one. It actually has more included value than the old one. And plus you get unlimited text as well where as the old doesn’t.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 8:42 PMHow exactly is a mediocre phone on a $59 plan ‘clearing out’? You can get much better phones on lower plans.
