As a fan of “universal” disc players, I understand why CNet loved the slow-to-arrive Oppo BDP-83, which sucks in BD, CD, DVD as well as SACD and DVD-Audio. The downside? $US500, but still no Wi-Fi or VOD. [CNet via CrunchGear]

Monday, September 7, 2009 at 9:09 AMIs it an Actual universal disk player? as in, is it region free? for blurays? (I herd there was one 7.5k McIntosh one coming out that was…).

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 6:31 PMUniversal refers to it being able to play SACD and DVD-A discs. As standard, it is not region-free for blu-ray, but it is for DVD. You can get region-free modded players, or aftermarket kits that make it fully region-free. Checkout Ebay for starters.
