Mac The Magazine Officially Launches

Gizmodo AU

mtmcover1smallIt’s not like there’s a shortage of Apple-specific publications around the world and on the Internet, but the latest one is actually worth a bit of your time. Mac The Mag is an online magazine, edited by former Australian Macworld editor Mathew JC. Powell, and it has officially launched its first issue.

There’s a heap of really good articles inside, like how to protect your Mac against thieves and a guide to switching from PC to Mac. It does take a little bit of getting used to reading a magazine in a web browser, but it’s actually well worth the effort, and you can print out each page if you prefer a hard copy. Considering it’s free, quality content, it’s not like you can really complain, is it?

PS: the link above (www.macthemagazine.com) takes you straight to the weirdo online reader, however http://www.macthemag.com takes you to a page where you can sign up to an email subscription.

Very very weird not to have a landing page at both domains… sigh…

Doesn’t work on my iPhone. Pretty useless for a website dedicated to macs.

        From http://www.macthemag.com/:

“MacTheMag is a … publication, with the latest in news, reviews, analysis and tutorials on everything related to the Mac and iPhone on the web”.

        So there.

The point about iPhone compatibility is well-taken. Digital magazine formats that don’t lean heavily on Flash are pretty hard to find and in the end the ones that don’t use Flash have so many other problems that it wasn’t worth the compromise for us. Instead we’re planning an iPhone app and iPhone-specific design that will allow viewing of MacTheMagazine on iPhone without Flash. In the meantime you can always download PDFs for reading it on your iPhone.
