DirectX 10.1 Vs. DirectX 11: Can You See The Difference?
Like with the jump from DirectX 9 to DirectX 10, you’ll have to really concentrate hard to see what’s changed between the two versions. If you can even really tell which version is which.
In that first shot with the swine flu guy, it seems the one on the right is a bit nicer looking, as in his head and mask don’t look as polygonal as the one on the left. The two vents in his mask are actually round instead of octagonal, and there are more details all around. But that probably took you a while to spot.
I can’t even see a huge difference in the second shot, where I reversed the DX10 and DX11 shots to make sure you were paying attention. Did you think the one on the right was better looking before I said anything? If so, you don’t need to upgrade. More shots over at Firing Squad. [Firing Squad]

Of course you wont see the full potential of DX 11 when your showcasing a game that’s not designed for it. It’s DX 9/10 (I think that’s STALKER isn’t it?) with some DX 11 features thrown in. Try playing Deus Ex with the DX 9 mod and tell me that it illustrates what true DX 9 looks like.
The differences are HUGE… if the pictures are. At the sizes displayed, they’re miniscule and as noted, not noticable for the most part. And yes, I noticed the draw distance was flawed in the second shot for DX10, so your reverse game didn’t fool me.
But, I don’t care either way. I’m 32 and have witnessed throughout my life, all of gaming evolution. Gameplay over graphics. I don’t care how pretty it is… if it’s not fun, it’s crap. If this wan’t fact, why does the Wii sell?
Also, the same applies to movies for me. Not that most would care… they’re probably scanning over this text looking for pictures or emotes.
dx11 is about optimizations to make the api multi thread ready, and GPGPU.
the tesselator is nice, but they don’t seem to be really focusing on the graphics pretties with this one.
the good news: both GPGPU and the faster api, should apply to all dx10 and above cards.
Reminds me of how the first DX10 released game was Lost Planet, a port of an Xbox 360 game.
As Jerry said, of course you won’t see the full potential yet
