Concept Windows 7 Ads Shot With 5D Mark II Set The Bar High

Microsoft is set to bombard us all with Windows 7 ads around the October 22nd launch—and director Marty Martin’s concept spots are setting the bar high.

The spots are all the more impressive when you find out that they were shot with the Canon 5D Mark II for Microsoft on a tight 3-day deadline. Hopefully, Martin’s work is a good indicator of where Microsoft plans to take the campaign. [istartedsomething via ars technica]

    @justinpe: i'm sure the irony will definitely put windows users in there place, while concurrently fueling apple's meteoric rise to market dominance.

    Shot with the Canon 5D Mark II, edited on a Mac.

    Don't really care for the football fondling but the other two were good.

    @justinpe: all good...it was a snarky comment for the sake of snarkiness (i'll cut down on the coffee). something to balance out the apple-ness of today.

    @i2hellfire:

    Hey, easy now. I'm a windows user too.

  • CaptMoose

    @i2hellfire: You're right, that did put me in my place! I'm so ashamed of my own preferences now.

    @justinpe: Bill Gates is better than Steve Jobs

    @justinpe:

    Yup and don't let anyone tell you that's been there since XP. You can SORT OF do the same thing except you can't really control which window goes on which side and it PERMANENTLY resizes the window. No putting things back to the way they were easily.

    @Mess Yo Self!: That'd make you a windows 7 noob.

    @Jackhole:
    I like how you can drag to the top to maximize or to either side to make it exactly half the size of your screen. Works well for comparing sites in different browsers. [lifehacker.com]

    *facepalm* I had no idea about Aero Shake until seeing the ad for it just now. Been using Win7 RC since it came out. *facepalm*

    Its sad that I've been using 7 for about 4 months now and needed to learn about the shake from this commercial.

    Now what would that make me?

  • quayzar

    Good adverts that explain what the OS has going for it concisely. These should replace all of Microsoft's adverts immediately.

    This we edited with Canons proprietary editing software. Subtitles and fading were made using Windows Live Movie Maker.

    Would haven been ironic though ;)

  • ISOHaven

    Anyone know the song in the third one?

  • XanderCrews

    @Jackhole: Second that - does anyone actually use aero shake?

  • Justin B

    @Jackhole: Same here, and Ive been using it since Beta!

    @andreadavini: Kinda like how Apple touts MMS and 'copy and paste' on the iPhone as if THEY invented it?

    Wow, M$ allowed YouTube to be shown, that is the evil that burns deep in the bowels of Redmond.

    I'm an Apple fan boy. But these spots have a real good feel to them. Good for the Windows brand.

  • Usama

    I thought that Windows Movie Maker was not part of 7, but part of the Windows Live download? Why would they advertise it like an included feature of 7?

  • quayzar

    @andreadavini: To be fair Movie Maker has been in Windows since ME. Though it was a bit shit though. I had Windows ME I know.

    Windows ME was still based off of the 9x stuff but added a bit more crashing to the mix. If you were to browse the web and shut it down without having to Ctrl+Alt+Del once you a some sort of Wizard. Mind you half the time I went on Netscape the Start Menu would go all David Copperfield on me and disappear so I would have to C.A.D. just to hit the Shut Down button.

  • andreadavini

    It's funny how something that has come included in a Mac for years now like iPhoto-iMovie integration becomes all of a sudden a marketing tool for Windows just because they finally succeeded to make it work a little better.
    Still light-year behind...

  • DirtyDogg

    @XanderCrews: I use it quite a bit. I've always got to many apps open at the same time it's a quick way to clear up the desktop without closing something you are coming back to.

  • ipodrulz

    Damn 3 adverts in 3 days?

  • Weet

    Wow I haven't seen anything from this guy since his short "Got Milk?"

    Weet

  • VoidingWarranties

    "This is a private video"??? Why did they make the video private. I wanna see it.

  • sharky112065

    Says "This is a private video. If you have been sent this video, please make sure you accept the sender's friend request." So no video for me I guess.

  • Bs Baldwin

    hey guys either get new videos or take them down.

  • JustinPM

    @i2hellfire: Or maybe it might put them in their place. Gizmodo should have achievements like Xbox Live, and there should be one for grammar Nazi. Just joshing ya chief.

    @quayzar: Sweet crap don't remind me of ME. Crap, I REMIND ME OF ME! Crap, this is how you remind me! NOT NICKELBACK! NOO!!!

    Just as an aside do you remember an SNL sketch where David Koechner would make stupid tangent references and then say no? Like "Windows, Windows 98 no." and then laugh uncomfortably? I think he jumped out the window in that sketch.
