Asus Designo MS Series LCD Leans On A Donut

Be honest. You’re a bit surprised to see such a nice-looking monitor branded with “Asus.”

The new Asus Designo MS Series 20-inch to 23.6-inch LCDs are, at least from these renders, a pretty sharp line of monitors. Donning the theme of binary, you’ll notice contrasting elements like white/black and 1/0 worked into the design—which manifests most prominently in the 0-like ring stand that supports the 1-like frame. This ring stand allows users to tilt the monitor with the pressure of a single finger.

The performance specs are just as promising, with a 2ms response, 1080P playback (in some models) and 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (standard contrast unspecified). So what do they cost? When will they go on sale? We don’t know yet. [ACNewsWire via Fareastgizmos]

What sort of connectors will these have?

I never thought Asus had the most attractive panels, but they weren't ugly enough that this would surprise me. On top of that, I thought the image quality was pretty good, though I chose the HP w2007 over it. Let it have HDMI along with DVI, and I'll add it to the maybe list.

@USB_Humping_Dog: According to ASUS, the MS246H/D, MS236H/D and MS226H will have HDMI and D-Sub connectors as well as earphone/audio out, while the MS227N and MS202N/D will have just DVI and D-Sub.

Really? Asus makes a great monitor design IMO, their 24" is cheap enough to give away as gifts and it still is pretty good in terms of connections and what not.

That's a pretty Leopard-y looking screen image on an iMac-y looking screen...

I think Asus is making an aggressive move in the Easily-Confused and/or Drunk Computer Shopper market.

  • Mike Zuniga: That was Unexpected

@Kaiser-Machead: My thoughts exactly. I still think I'm gonna go with one of the new Samsung ones for when I buy my new monitor.

@met2art: Thanks :) Not bad (but I wish they moved some if not all of the buttons to the side).

@AustinMiniMan: In other news, the base of IC Power 15" monitors is the same size as a DVD case...

Who needs a donut when you have a bent old CD-ROM case? Can a donut serve as a lovely channel for your cables?

I had to do this to get my 19" to line up with my 15", as it was too high.

@USB_Humping_Dog: No problem! Personally, I prefer front-facing controls. I frequently have my monitors either side by side or sometimes flanked by bookshelves. Side buttons just make minor adjustments more annoying for me. That's purely aesthetic, though. The biggest concern for me is color purity, since I'm usually doing illustration and photo work.

@Hiphopopotamus: Excuse me Mr. Shalit, but what the hell are you talking about? *hic*

If you can tilt it with the push of a finger, it seems it will slide down all the time inadvertently.

why would anyone want a display that leans backwards? This is insane, but hey! It looks cool! face-palm
