Archos Android Tablet Price And Pictures Leak
Archos’s 4.8-inch-screened A5 series (the A stands for Android!) has already been given the FCC treatment, and now retailer B&H has listed the price and capacities of the device ahead of its September 15 launch.
Looks like the A5 will come in two flash and two hard drive capacities, with a 16/32GB SSD or a 160/500GB HDD. Prices are $US294 for the 16GB, $US370 for the 32GB, $US320 for the 160GB and $US420 for the 500GB. The A5 is rumoured to have 720p video output, but like the Zune HD, you’ll have to buy a dock, and the A5’s is a pricey one with DVR functionality at $US130. If this could be used with the GV app and a VoIP app to make free telephone calls using a Bluetooth headset, I'm sold. Does anyone know if it can do that (is there an Android VoIP app that would play nice with GV)? Maybe that could be covered in the review on Sept. 15?

looks cool, but i just got an HTC Touch Pro, i just have to hope they release the andriod OS to the verizon version and i'll be all set ;)

@Sam: That's actually one of the features mentioned for the regular Archos 5's..... so i don't see why they'd make it any different for the Archos A5's.

@Charbax2: he's actually talking about the standard Archos 5, which uses Archos's own Linux-based GUI.
Still.... i think the only thing the iTouch has on the regular Archos 5 is the fact that it can use almost all the apps the iPhone can. but the iTouch can't function as a DVR..... can't play HD content..... can use a WiFi network but can't BROWSE said network like any wifi Archos device (i.e. for files on a computer on the network).... pretty much REQUIRES you to use iTunes for file transfers (which is one area i think Archos prevails in. standard hard drive usage beats app requirement any day).... can't output to a TV as far as i'm aware. I know someone's gonna say that Archos requires an expensive dock to output to the TV, but actually, at least up to the standard Archos 5's.... all you really need is the Mini-DIN to composite cable from Archos, which isn't really expensive at all.

@aerospaceman: you get 10x more storage, 3x more screen size/resolution, 5x more codecs, 1000x better Android OS for same price as the ipod touch.

hence the older version being in the "Gadget Deals of the Day"... whichl doesn't hold a candle to the iPod touch.

I still think the DVR Functionality of Archos players is a great feature, especially if you get good HD Cable in your hotel room. Totally worth it.

I can only hope that Archos can create a device with a nice GUI that's not ugly as hell. Maybe the french should go back to cooking..
