AMD’s Eyefinity Graphics Card Drives Six 30-Inch Monitors At Once

I don't understand why people are remotely interested in playing games on a gigantic screen. Bigger is not always better. Do you really want the effect of sitting front row of a movie theater while playing a game?

With that said, I do like the idea of pushing technology.

Thanks for that 2nd to last sentence. I was about to blow up about the horrible 1-2" bezel that is breaking up the images. Unless you can get edge-to-edge LCD displays, I would never ever be interested in this. Imagine the monitor you are looking at has a grid plastered on it, ALL THE TIME. Unacceptable at any price point.

Pointless. A better demonstration MIGHT have been something like playing a game on a 4k projector in a movie theater. There aren't too many quality monitors with bezels thin enough to really utilize something like this.

@njdevil: Technically, there really isn't. To the human eye, the "overall picture" is just stretched. Either the center is at the top-middle monitor or the bottom-middle monitor.

@njdevil: Yeah, check out that racing game. The horizon is the most important part of any racetrack and it's blocked.

Finally, an AMD/ATi product worth getting excited for, however, I humbly request new monitors with paper thin bezels so that I don't feel like I'm playing my games with a pair of Kanye West's pimpglasses on.

In most cases getting one game on multiple monitors isn't much of an advantage. Some games allow it but really I have more than one to do other things as I play. 6 30 inch monitors just means you have to sit way back as you play and personally that's not for me.

Would only be useful if the monitors were seperate, and not trying to form one screen. What I mean is, having a main monitor for actual gaming and first person camera, and another monitor for your inventory/other crap. Now that would be great.

@Maori_Yelir: Isn't the normal dual monitor setup already kind of like 2 screens acting as one giant screen?

I imagine having 6 displays would be insane. At the very least it'd have a huge resolution advantage over 1 big screen.

And I could use as many of those 6 screens as I'd want, if I could tolerate the bezels.

@Maori_Yelir: This is meant to showcase gaming, not productivity. I would imagine having a multi monitor setup like you have is fairly easy to set up. Since I don't have a multi monitor setup, I can't say how much harder it would be to get it to run games easily. I know you can do it, I just think they're making it easier to implement.

@Rob: Another reason to spend $175,000 on that 4K projector. You can have this one video card push the four sections they say you can do with having 4 movies play at once.

@Sneaky Walrus: Don't get too excited. ATI sucks ever since AMD purchased them. Technically good cards and very affordable.

However! the drivers suck, suck, suck. The support isn't that great either, but it isn't like Nvidia outshines them there either. Still, it's the drivers that make the card and atm AMD blows huge ass chunks.

I don't really see where multiple monitors acting as one would be an advantage. Having a multiple monitor set up myself the best part of it is that each screen is it's own work space. Why would I want to have one work space spread across 6 screens when I could just get a large screen to do the same and not have divisions in the picture?

saves $165,000 off that other projector...

(4k is measured horizontally, so you'd actually have 6k :D )

@eriegz: It's not really blocked. More like the image stops, then continues right where it left off a couple of inches away.

So the lines leading to/from the vanishing point are broken, but nothing is actually lost.

@mopo: As someone who's played games on a tiny 15 inch TV for years, bigger is always better. I'd like to read what the menus actually say.

@mopo: People who say that have never experienced a High in how things are in the details when pushed at extremely high resolutions while taking on solar systems and destroying them with YOUR ARMADA! Sins of a solar empire would be more easily managed when your screen has the same depth of the Enterprise while waging galactic war. Whoa, I just drooled on a dream that will never come true to me until I am a old man and can afford all those things. 3 monitors is good enough for now.

@Daniel Mittelman: well, I don't know if this is the perfect answer but my example is that I run movies on Monitor 1 and slide the controls over to Monitor 2. Once the feature is running I turn 2 off. Cant do that with just one wide screen. But yea, six. Overkill but I still want. lol

@combatfetus: Only problem with that is finding a developer to do all that extra coding. Would be interesting to see in a game like world of warcraft though or any mmo

@masshuum: I beg to differ. I've had fantastic luck with my Radeon 4850 (the 4800 series disproves your statement that ATI sucks post-purchase), and it plays everything out there, albeit not like a 4890 or 295 would.

I've never run into a driver related issue, ever. My buddy was running a 2400pro for awhile, and he never ran into any driver issues either. Both cards also transitioned to Win7 (x64 and x86) fantastically.

Regardless, this tech is pretty cool. I do think it will become standard for higher-end cards, simply because of the possibilities it opens up. Especially if you can easily switch between Eyefinity-mode (for games or photoshop or movies) and standard mode (keeping all monitors seperate. for word/excel/internet/mediaplayer/etc all open at once).

@skyshard: thats actually pretty genius..never thought about that to solve the bezel problem!

now if only it was a piece of cake to align the pixels.
