@lo_fye: The *real* WTF is why people haven't put together windows drivers to use this remote as the cheapest and best non-line-of-sight wireless presenter.

In the US, Sony sold PS3 Blu-ray remotes with Hancock.

@lo_fye: I just got one of the $12 madcatz ps3 remotes with an IR dongle... threw out the remote and programmed my Harmony...

If you have a Harmony remote, pick up the Logitech PS3 adapter... saves having to have one remote JUST for the PS3...

As awesome as bluetooth is, the fact that the remote doesn't have any kind of illumination kinda sucks.

I got my remote with the PS3 in a bundle from Amazon. I have to say, it makes it easy to use to view movies. More importantly it allows my wife to navigate a disc menu, pause, play etc. without having to learn anything new. Oh and Bluetooth, use anywhere line of sight be damned? I love that.

If it doesn't come with an HDMI cable, it's not much of a BluRay bundle. More like "overpriced, glorified DVD player bundle."

I think there is an adapter you can buy in order to use it with programmable remotes.

I picked up a kit like this at blockbuster a few months back, came with HDMI, Remote, Controller, Blu ray movie and a game, for about 400?? dont really remember

If they are going to call it the Ultimate Blu-ray kit. Why not include a HDTV color/image correction disk. It would cost them next to nothing to add, but sales wise this would get me off the fence

I have the BD Remote. But it came bundled with Hancock for $30 at Wal-Mart. So it was a buy one get one deal with me.

if they really wanted to help the format they'd include the BBC's Earth series, Blu Ray's killer app

I wish sony had a tiny "apple remote" esque remote for ps3. Their current remote has SO MANY useless buttons.

I got the Logitech adapter so I can use my universal remote. Works great and you can turn the PS3 on and off without getting off the couch.

I love the remote. Not needing a line of sight for IR makes it the best single device remote I own. All remotes should be on bluetooth going forward.

That said, it would have been nice to have some IR so people could use a universal remote if they want that option.

@chefgon: Agreed 100%. Sony could have released a RF/BT/IR universal remote to compete with the Harmony, or they could have created an add-on IR eye - I don't think they saw customer demand.

I rather happy with the Logitech adapter - fumbling with a controller in the dark to play DVDs, or finding that one extra remote is just not worth it. FINALLY, my PS3 works well in my HT setup.

BD remote owners are likely to own 4 times the BD movies of those that don't own one (according to industry studies)...just wait for WB or SONY to have another buy 2 discs get a remote deal (Best buy etc) and you'll a: get it cheaper and b: have a better choice of movies.

Meh. Go cheap with the Nyko bluwave adapter or get the Logitech puck for your Harmony (on and off is worth it). Of course, if you were psychic enough to by a Bravia with sync, then just get a new slim.

@Mediocre: Agreed. I use my PS3 every night to watch The Simpsons stored on it's HDD. I'm able to use that remote blindly now as I'm falling asleep. It would be much more difficult with the PS3 controller.

Sony's Blu-ray remote is flat out the worst thing about the system. I can't believe they've redesigned the hardware from scratch and STILL neglected to include an IR window. How much could that possibly cost, fifty cents?

I will eventually pony up the fifty bucks (fifty bucks!) for Logitech's Harmony adapter, but it's absolutely ridiculous that I have to do so.

I just find it insane that Sony is trying to push a high-end movie format using a system that won't work with anybody's home theater remote control. I don't know a single person who owns a Blu-ray player but doesn't have a high-end universal remote, how could Sony possibly not see that connection? Nobody wants to use your proprietary remote, morons!

Can the remote be used as a game controller? It does have a directional pad, the symbol buttons, and I believe shoulder buttons too.

That's a really good price on that. Too bad I already have Batman Begins, 300, and the Blu-ray remote, and there is the little fact that it is currently unavailable in the states...

If I was able to get a blue blu ray player with a blue blue tooth remote that only played the blues or Le Grand Bleu by Luc Besson, then I'd consider it.

But, alas, it'd probably just give me the blue screen of death.

I love the BluRay remote. I find it annoying to have to turn the controller back on to pause it or rewind/fastforward.
