Win Mobile 6.5 Final Build Demos Zune-like UI, Marketplace, Synching

2:00AM August 3, 2009 | Jack Loftus

Here’s a quick peek at the purported final build of Windows Mobile 6.5 (we call it “Windows Phone,” he says) running on an HTC Touch Diamond 2.

Aside from the subtle name/branding change, there’s some meat here in the form of the UI (Zune-ish), Marketplace for Windows 6.5 Phone, the My Phone sync service (free) and Microsoft Tag. Browsing was a bit slow, and if you’re not a fan of WinMo before you view the video, that will probably still be the case when it’s done. [Intruders TV via BGR]

I’ve been running WinMo 6.5 on my Xperia for a month or two now, it’s very much a “visual” upgrade from 6.1 Pro. File manager is way faster but everything else seems stock.

Microsoft My Phone sync is a life-saver, having everything stored in the “cloud” rather than Activesync or backup software.

Microsoft Tag is just another reader… meh. IE update is good, but nothing on Opera (multiple tabs anyone?). Nice try, more work…

I threw the “Zune” Today interface in the bin and installed HTC’s Touch Flo 2 interface, a much more consistent Today experience, phone owners need to take note that installing a custom ROM on your mobile nulls your warranty with your provider (e.g. 3, Optus, Telstra) as well as the manufacturer… how lame is that? WinMo 7 better be awesome.
