My dad began a tradition of naming his computer after T.H. White characters. My current computer is Merlyn, but there’s also Kay, Cully, Arthur, Wart, etc.
My laptops are always named after robots- my current 15.4 is named Johnny5, the 12.1 traveler is Gigantor. My desktops are named LittleGidding after the T.S Elliot poem, Curtana and Durandal. My old one was Audrey 2 from little shop of horrors. For some reason I always name my consoles Betty.
In the 90′s my brother and I used to name ours after the 7 simple machines: SCREW – the music server PULLEY – my pc LEVER – his pc WEDGE – the laptop WHEEL – the proxy server PLANE – the roommate’s pc
Now I call them all Command Centre-related names: COMMANDCENTRE – my old, very dead PC MOBILECOMMAND – my old, very dead laptop MOBCOMII – my new laptop iCom – my iPhone NETCOM – My Netbook

My Mac has a default name because I have not worked out how to change its name yet.
