Mine is named ‘Turk’ after ‘The Turk’ being the name given to the chess playing computer that was the first development stage of ‘Skynet’.
It’s called ‘The Turk’ after a chess playing machine from the 18th Century that resembeled a Turkish man.
Sith lords…Sidious, Vadar, Maul, etc…but my wife didn’t like these…
Hal, mini-hal…my wife still doesn’t like these…
I have a NAS named snapdragon, which I think my wife likes…
I worked at a studio that named all there systems using Spanish names…no idea why, but it did make for consistancy…that I could neither spell or pronoune half our systems…
But mostly my systems get called all sorts of swear words …
Any self-respecting geek NEEDS to name their computers – if only for network identification.
Personally, each of those in my collection are named after Norse gods – Thor, Loki, Heimdall, Tyr, Odin, Freya.
Wintermute for my current machine. Older desktop named Xoanon. Used to have a powerbook called “Lord Of The Files”. Have a preference for names of computers in works of fiction.
My network is CAFFEINE
My router is BARISTA (cos it serves, geddit?)
My PCs are STARBUCKS, DOME and GLORIAJEANS (Australian)
My laptop is MUZZBUZZ (Oz take away)
and even my drives, partitions and portable drives are CAPPUCCINO, LATTE, MOCHA, JOLT, COKE, MAX, AMERICANO, DOPPIA, ESPRESSO, REDBULL, AFFOGATTO and RISTRETTO. “NESCAFE” is not coffee, so will never be used… :)

The only reason I clicked on this link was to give the name Skynet. Good to see it’d already been proposed.

Rebuilding my machines so often, the hardest bit was choosing the name for the network ID, so my current convention is Christopher Walken characters.
