Supposed Cannon EOS 7D Poster And Lenses Turn Up Online
CannonRumors has what they claim are pictures of posters and lenses for the yet-to-be-confirmed Canon EOS 7D. Not much new information can be gleaned from the poster, but at least the lenses look nice.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been teased with glimpses of the 7D, but now we at least have details on the lenses which are a EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens and a longer EF-S 18-135m f/3.5-5.6 IS [canonrumors via Engadget]

Every time canon comes out with a DSLR I smile... So glad I moved to a Nikon D3 after my 5D... I knew the 5D Mark II was going to have that same garbage ass AF... All of nikons G glass is amazing, the 14-24 is a god-like lens...
Canon makes great cameras made by engineers, Nikon makes great cameras made by photographers... End of story...

@Sticks Calhoun: Bought my 5DII in May and would also be royally pissed if the 7D was comparable or better for the same price.
@kimchibrown: I think that while the 5D Mark II is supposed to be the "baby 1Ds Mark III" I'm having a feeling that the 7D will be a new tier and be the "baby 1D Mark III," their first APS-H in a compact body.
@al12345: I really like the versatility, and for someone who's been shooting with the kit 18-55 (non-IS) for 3 years, it seems nice. What do you find so advantageous with an internal zoom?
leozuck
So its an 8fps, 18MP camera. This would be awesome if it was a full-frame camera, but most rumors peg this as an APS-C.
8 fps makes this as fast as a Nikon D300(with Grip), but the 19 AF gives me concern. For sports/action photography I would want the 51 AF points Nikon offers.
Also, since the 7D is rumored to be almost $2,000 then the Sony A850 that is a real FULL-FRAME camera becomes a serious alternative. Even if you have to change to G-glass or Zeiss lenses instead of a Canon system.

seems like the 7D is really just the upcoming 60D in disguise. really though. Is there much point to giving it it's own "7D" designation if it isn't even full frame? Those kit lenses are a joke too.
the jump to nikon has never been so tempting... but yet I still way patiently for canon to do something worthwhile. Can't imagine the thought of selling all that canon glass.
@leozuck:
Looks like another flimsy telescoping zoom dust pump...my 28-135 is a joke. Fun sometimes for a $200 add on to the body, but a constant wide aperture internal zoom is so much nicer and worth the cost in nearly any situation.
al12345
These lenses are a joke...obviously the "7D" is still a crop...
The real news to me...the new SD980IS with a 24mm lense as a carry everywhere cam. About f-ing time! I'm sure there will be all kinds of distortion though...

@betterdays:
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have a 30D. I've wanted to upgrade but the 40D and 50D looked like crap next to the D300. More megapixels that I don't need. Hoo-friggin-ray.
What I don't understand is that Canon has a great 45 point autofocus system from their old 1d Mark II cameras. It's already there. Stick it in a full frame 16mp body (hell, use the same sensor as the 1dmark II), keep it less than $2500 and THAT is what the Canon 5D SHOULD'VE been
@betterdays: I'm in the same boat as you. Watch this thing have 24fps video as well. I went from a Rebel XTi to a 5DII and was pretty shocked that the AF was the same.
I find it weird that they use the single-digit naming scheme for a camera that isn't in the same league as the 5D, sensor-wise.
The 19 point AF is a punch in the face when -like me- you bought the 5D markII which sports the lousy AF of its 3 year-old predecessor. And in the meantime, Canon has been selling the 40D and 50D both with a very promising 9 point AF with all 9 points being cross-type (the 5D markII only has one cross type).
If this is Canon's answer to the great Nikon D300 and its sports-class 51 point AF... well, once again, they're late.
18MP on an APS-C sensor is insane. Too much. On full frame it's mostly OK.
If I didn't have some Canon lenses and a relative interest in the 1080p video mode, I'd be really tempted to give them the finger and go with Nikon.
betterdays
Oh woa! That 15-85 Lens looks NICE. I'm getting rid of my XTi now in hopes of a 60D.
leozuck
I'm glad Canon did an 'update' to the 17-85mm buy making it a smidge wider and a tad bit faster (f3.5 vs. f4) but they had better have done some serious work on the distortion and CA problems of the 17-85mm or else this thing will be useless. The 18-135mm looks like it could be a very usable lens (much more so than the 15-85mm). It may not have as much reach as the the Tamron 18-250mm but even though I own that lens, I pretty much keep my 24-105mm L on my camera most of the time, and it makes a great walk-about lens.
heres hoping they release a 7D soon. I wanna see those 5D prices drop so I can buy one.
@Sticks Calhoun: I know, I bought a 5DII right before I heard about the 7D. I still made the right choice, full frame was the seller for me.
You can actually glean a lot from the poster: 19pt autofocus (so not 1 series's 45), some sort of new IS that I doubt is labelled in the camera but is at least supported, ISO 6400, 100% viewfinder and 8fps. Can't tell the MP count though. And like sticks says, those lenses point towards a 1.6 crop. So the poster confirms a lot of rumors. But true, nothing new.

@archercc: Where've you been? The 1Ds (Mark I through III) and 5D (Mark I/II) are both full-frame. You probably got mixed up in the difference between the 1D and 1Ds--1D is 1.3 and 1Ds is FF.
@Sticks Calhoun: Does Canon even make a full frame camera? I thought it was either 1.3 crop or 1.6 crop.
archercc
Huh? Plenty of new information can be gleaned from the poster... 18mp, dual DIGIC IV, virtual horizon, 8fps, etc.
18mp is pretty dense for a APS-C sensor. I'm going to go with everyone else and hope it's an APS-H sensor that can mount EF-S lenses in a crop mode. The 7D is shown with the 15-85 in the picture, so it's a guaranteed crop of some kind... mounting EF-S is impossible on FF but possible with some catches on APS-H.
@Sticks Calhoun: Well, it's bound to be worse than the 5D. Higher number = suckier.
Hmm, I just bought a 50D. I wonder if I'm going to regret it.
Well, if those lenses are for the 7D then it's not full-frame. Phew. I just bought a 5D Mark II two weeks ago and didn't want the insult of something better coming out so quickly.
Edit: Psssst! Guys! Canon! Only 2 n's, not 3!
