PS3 Slim Vs. Xbox 360 Elite Hardware: Pretty Cut And Dry?
Kotaku made a handy chart comparing the two $US300 game consoles from Microsoft and Sony, and it sure looks like the PS3 comes out on top. Unfortunately, none of this stuff actually sells consoles.

Yes, Blu-ray is a big aspect of what makes the PS3 appealing. But for gamers, is that a huge selling point? As for Wi-Fi, well, that depends on your setup. Most gamers who are serious about playing online probably would rather plug their console right into their router. And Bluetooth? Who gives a shit about Bluetooth?
To be fair, there are definite advantages to PS3 that make it appear to be a better value. Really want a Blu-ray player? Home theatre setup too far away from your router to plug the console right in? Turned off by an annual charge for online services? The PS3 is right up your alley.
But for many people who are interested in serious gaming consoles, what matters most is software, not hardware. And the Xbox 360 arguably has the best games library and the best online service. And for me at least, that makes up for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi about 50 times over, which is why I would personally recommend the Xbox 360 to a friend over the PS3. But despite that fact, the decision as to what console to buy has never been harder.
Aw, what the hell. Just buy both. [Kotaku]

‘Who gives a shit about Bluetooth?’ I’m pretty sure every one does, due to the ability to freely move when using the controller or a headset or any other console peripheral that the user has physical interaction with. But hey, if you like sitting 2 meters away from your screen because you’re fully wired, then be my guest.
Just pointing out Lucas that the 360 does have Wireless tech built in, it’s just not Bluetooth Wireless tech, it’s some MS tech..
New 360s come with a wireless controller and you don’t need to be less than 2 m from the console for it to work correctly.
Hence “Who gives a shit about Bluetooth?” If you sync your phone with your PS3, well that’s great for you.. otherwise, for the purpose of gaming or watching a movie, the 2 reasons you’d look at buying either, Bluetooth is not a real point of difference.
yeah, but thats just the thing. standard blutooth vs MS proprietary tech, instead of saying “blutooth” they should have said “3rd party peripherals” xbox has some, but ps3 wins out in this category.
should have done noise too. care alot more about noise than size and weight.
also, number of games, and number of highly rated games would be more important to me than number of usb ports…..
comparisons of the media player/streamer capabilities would be cool as well…
heard of wifi, you know the more robust, faster, travels further and universally accepted wireless tech.
just…
how come same price in US and A$100 more for PS3 (A$499 vs A$399) in Australia????????
what I’m interested in is why we don’t see those price drops in Australia for either console yet… the PS3 is being advertised for a whole AUS$130 more than the US list price?!?!
yeah come on MS drop the Australian price. I need to upgrade from 20gb HDD to 120gb and dont wanna drop $200 bucks on it, would rather update to newer model of 360 and sell the old one. Also have PS3 too and they are both great machines for differnt reasons. Fanboys are just kids who cant afford both.
For those who are bitching, Sony Europe has set the price at $499 which is acutally less than the European price. Not that I think it is fair that the US get it for less money, but it has an alot larger market and thus has to spend less money on admin, r&d and marketing per customer. Living in Australia is more expensive than the US, get used to it.
Not about hardware but about software? Then get a PS2 as it has the largest gaming library still active and the unit costs $100, right?
Sorry but the PS3 has blue ray…..and is a far better gaming system. True they don’t offer the same number of games as 360 but as I pointed out….if number of games is what you are looking at, then just get a ps2.
No built in WiFi, no thanks.
Is this writer a fanboy or what? trying to sell us the 360. Th e 360 is a piece of unreliabe junk. Hardware not important? what? udiot.
Eric before you say any more ignorant things, he says the Xbox 360 has the best games library not most. He also points out that the xbox has the better online service. Also to suggest to go back to a older generation system is ludicrous.
Also remember that most people with xbox’s play them and keep playing them, even if they might be unreliable pieces of junk. the quality of games obviously keep them playing
you cannot argue that xbox has a larger game library. In 2007 that was the case, but not anymore. Give me some examples it has over playstation besided Halo and Gears of War? PS3 has built a very nice lineup, and some really good ones are still to come.
oh yeah and you forgot to mention about upgrading the hard drive. Little easier to do on playstation.
Yeah, one of you xbox fanboys point out a game that can beat LBP. ive got both a ps3 and xbox, online is better on xbox but who cares . . . you see, theres this new thing called SOCIALISING, maybe you xbox guys should try it out.
The Sony PS3 has always been the superior console: Blu-ray, built-in Wi-fi, free online service (including PlayStation Home), etc.
As for software, it’s the exclusives that are the real deciding factor, and both XBOX 360 and PS3 have a fairly equal amount of impressive titles
Exclusives, Infamous and uncharted drakes fortune, won me over on the PS3 xbox has nothing that competes with those two.
As far as Blu-Ray and library of games then the
ps3 wins, and for backwards compatibly for ps2/ps1
games.
The free online is better than wasting $50 a year
for xbox 360 as if microsoft didn’t already make enough money as it is they can charge even more
damn monolopy.
some of the hardware specs are better on ps3 but
the xbox 360 does have some really good games including halo series.
It’s hard to pick but I would go with ps3 you get
wifi free internet and blu ray player.
