Aussie tech journo, smartphone nut and one-time Giz AU guest editor Jenneth Orantia has written a superb guide to flashing the HTC Magic with the HTC Hero’s ROM, so you can enjoy the the benefits of the new user interface without having to buy a whole new phone.

The tutorial gets a little technical in parts, so if you have an unnatural fear of the command line you should probably stay away. But if you’re prepared to take a risk, then it’s definitely worth checking out. I had a play with the Hero the other week, and I have to say that it was the nicest Android device I’ve played with yet, purely because of the UI enhancements.
