The thing that caught my attention about the Pools of Blood tower defence game when I saw it on Kotaku this morning wasn’t the fact that it’s an Australian game. It wasn’t the fact that despite its gore factor, it still managed to get approved for the app store. It was the fact that the Perth-based developer Staring Man had managed to get Perth-based band Karnivool to supply the soundtrack.
I really wonder if this is something we’ll see more of in the future – Karnivool certainly isn’t an unknown band in Australia, but they aren’t household names either. By licensing their music to a game that is presumably available on iTunes around the world, they can potentially reach a much larger audience. The game even has a page dedicated to the band, with links for buying music on iTunes and the latest band news. Which is perfect, because the band’s new album is awesome and you should buy it.

Definitely worth buying, both albums Themata and Sound Awake are awesome. Nothing compares to their live gigs though, been to quite a few now and the crowd never fails to go off their nut!

I’d be tempted to buy any game just for the Karnivool soundtrack! Certainly a great decision to use their music by the developers there.
