Not that Channel 9 has ever really understood the benefit of broadcasting content in HD, but David Knox over at TV Tonight is reporting that with the launch of their second SD channel Go!, Nine is reverting to using their HD channel to simulcast whatever crap they’re showing on their regular SD channel.
The move is to try and drive people who don’t want to watch the regular content to the new Go! channel.
On the (albeit small) upside, Ellen, The View, Entertainment Tonight, Nine’s Late News, Gilmore Girls, NRL Footy Show and Today Weekend Edition will all be broadcast in HD now. Joy!

Monday, August 3, 2009 at 2:41 PMI just wish they could start broadcasting the NRL in HD. Looks like crap in SD on a large TV.

Monday, August 3, 2009 at 4:03 PMJim, Nine have been broadcasting NRL in HD all year. Majority of the time it looks absolutely brilliant too. Check it out on HDTV channel 90 either Friday night or Sunday afternoon.

Monday, August 3, 2009 at 3:16 PMI’m sorry but I dont quite follow “The move is to try and drive people who don’t want to watch the regular content to the new Go! channel.”.
Are you saying that people will tune into the HD channel and think these are entirely different shows? I would have thought the original idea of different content would have driven viewers to the new channel. Now it will just drive viewers to different channels (those that are left anyway).
Maybe channel 9 are under the illusion that they are breaking people into HD despite ABC, TEN, and SBS already doing so. This would only help those who only watch nine which is probably limited to the McGuire family. Oh, enough said!

Monday, August 3, 2009 at 4:49 PMWhy is it that every other channel is together enough to include on its information bar, and program guide what they’re going to be showing but Nine HD can’t?

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 3:11 PMIf the NRL Footy Show is going HD, does that mean we won’t be able to get the one worth watching – the AFL Footy Show, live any more?
Looks like it’s not worth making the switch any more, which I was about to do.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 8:08 PMThat’s right, and there’s more to come: you will no longer get to see “Footy Classified” on Monday nights either. Looks like nine in Brisbane isn’t too worried about disappointing the 29000 AFL fans who turn up each game at the Gabba…or maybe we are being punished for sending in Carmichael Hunt!

Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 8:20 PMWe just got TIVO and cannot see Channel 9 now, we could yesterday. We called them and they suggested we reset all the channel which we did and still we cannot see Channel 9. Love the way they advertised the fact they were lauching a new channel and all digital viewers had to reset their channels.

Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 10:11 PMAll commercial channels have lost the opportunity to broadcast special interest programming on Digital TV. In Sydney we have lost All AFL Programming on Nine. Previously they showed (at a somewhat decent time)Footy Classifieds this is no longer shown at all, the AFL footy show is on at 1130 where previously it was on at 930
Ten sees fit to air “before the game” LIVE and then doesn’t show the game itself until 1100pm what the ****

Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 8:02 PMChannel Nine are a disgrace. I loved watching the AFL footy show @ 9.30pm on its HD channel as opposed to the NRL one which is such a rubbish show.
I hope the ratings continue to slide for the NRL show, bloody NRL crap…..

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 9:43 PMWe spend the money to buy HD LCD TV’s and then they go ditch the HD channel?
If they no longer broadcast in HD, what did we spend all the extra money for? Please explain?
