Seeing as how using your mobile phone in the car is generally frowned upon no matter what you’re doing with it, adding handsfree capabilities to their Tunebase products was a good move for Belkin. The good news is that both the Tunebase FM with handsfree and Tunebase Direct with handsfree are now available in Australia.

You’re looking at $150 for the FM version, and $90 for the Direct version. I’ve never been satisfied with an in-car FM transmitter though, so the Direct would get my money (if I were planning on dropping money on this type of thing…)

I’ve never had a problem with my “TuneBase FM”. If it ever gets any interference (never happens around town, just on longer trips) I just hit the “ClearScan” button and it’ll find a nice new one for me.
I used to use the AUX-IN for direct, but the socket eventually got too loose and is now useless.

Did you see the length of that support arm? it is so short that I think if you keep looking at the screen, it is as dangerous as having it in your hand.

Bought the $150 option last week at JB, didn’t realise they were so new!

It’s truly the swiss army knife of docks. You can plug your iPhone into the cradle, power and play another iPod at the same time. Take phone calls on it and all sorts. Very good bit of kit.

just bought the FM one for dad, pretty decent but lacks a secondary mike closer to the drivers face.

(i would have got the direct but his stereo has no AUX jack)

I picked up the FM tuner version of this from JB HiFi last week, and it seemed ok, well built, nice stiff gooseneck… and then after two days the transmitter stopped working! It was still providing recharge power to my iPhone but the tunebase screen went black and it stopped transmitting an FM signal. Still don’t quite know what the problem was, but it was clearly a problem with the dock not the lighter socket.
Fortunately JB HiFi gave me a refund, but be aware.
