Windows 7 Beta Shutting Every Two Hours Now
If you still have the Windows 7 Beta installed, today is the day when it starts shutting down every two hours. You know, to annoy the hell out of you. So go and get the Release Candidate. At least that one will only start shutting down every two hours in about a year.

Well, its not much of a hassle. I just moved my clock to sunday june 28 and the message told me i have 3 days to update
Still, i'll be updating tomorrow. Been a pretty busy week and been to lazy to do it, xD
@Naphtali14: Except build 7100... IS the RC... and it's certainly not prior to itself.
Few really consider the leaked builds other than 7000 and 7100, and I don't even know if they have the same restrictions as those.
@Toribor:
@planetarian:
... Actually the beta is considered anything prior to the RC. Therefore build 7100 would still be beta.
@OMG! Ponies!: I think someone didn't get their hug and Ovaltine this morning!
Magic Beans? Sure, I'll Buy Some!!
..., today is the day when it starts shutting down every two hours. You know, because your dumb ass should have already moved to the RC.
Nekrik
Im much to lazy to switch partitions and upgrade to the RC.
It was fun beta testing though.
@strider_mt2k: Or, more likely, looking for attention.
@ttech10: my buddy still needs to update his Mini 9
Dilpickle1
@medopal: to bad the pirate bay is not gonna be there to have Win7 ISO's
Dilpickle1
@OMG! Ponies!:
Not to mention that Microsoft has in GIANT letters on top of the Win7 page:
THE BETA STARTS SHUTTING DOWN JULY 1, UPGRADE TO RC NOW!!!
taniquetil
@ttech10:
Tsk tsk, thats too legal.
@Algerad: It's annoying seeing people whine about this, to say the least. What should they expect? They're volunteer beta testers; MS isn't just giving them a free ride because they can.
Don't forget the point in all this: MS wants feedback on the latest prerelease builds. Guess which build is no longer the latest. That's right folks -- for those of you using the Beta, your usefulness has ended, for now. Many of you likely never sent in any feedback anyway, and just want free stuff. Upgrade to the RC or go back to your old OS, but don't complain.
@Toribor: Build 7000 is THE beta build. Everyone still on 7k needs to upgrade to 7100.
@kyokan: It's your own fault, you know. They're not letting you use the prerelease versions for free just so you can get free shit. They need feedback for these versions, and the only way to get feedback is to have people testing the system out.
Beta feedback at this point is useless. RC is where it's at. Beta users needed to upgrade to the RC ASAP once it was released, and anyone still on the Beta is of no use to Microsoft until they upgrade.
I got bored of being nagged with 17 hrs ago and regressed back to vista, but the funniest bit was when it decided to revert to 1024 x 768 resolution, I remember when that res was amazing, now it looks like i'm blind! I'll get 7 when it's released.
Is the Beta anything before Build 7100? Which builds are considered 'beta'?
Toribor
@kyokan: You can compile your own upgrade disc from Beta to RC so you don't have to re-install a clean copy. I did it on one of my computers and haven't seen any glaring problems.
Mediocre
If we don't have the RC, but instead have a Beta build that was released after the RC (for example Build 7260), does the two hour shutdown still start today?
cooltech786
@kyokan: Sorry, homedog, MS warned everyone that this would happen right from the beginning for both Beta and RC versions. If you weren't prepared for this...well, you have no excuse. Suck it up and go back to XP for a while before upgrading to Win7 when it officially launches.
@OMG! Ponies!: Yeah, once upon a time, beta testing to most people actually meant helping the developers out to find bugs to make the release versions better. These days, most people with their huge senses of entitlement just see it as "Ohh, free stuff!" and never participate in the real testing part of it.
Algerad
Man, this is so annoying. I'm still running the beta at home, but I don't want to completely reinstall with the RC only to have to do it all again with the full version in a month or so...
Why can't they let the beta run until the official release?!
kyokan
@OMG! Ponies!: Seconded.
tempest in a teapot
Waaaaa. whatever
Pfft. Anyone crying about this is so out of the loop as to be not worth caring about.
If someone "gave" you the beta, go back and ask 'em to "give" you the RC.
-and then reach down deep and "give" up some cash for the real version. -it's so totally worth it.
Anyone playing this up is lacking imagination.
I didn't even realize people still had the BETA... I would have thought they'd have already upgraded to the RC.
@medopal: Or www.microsoft.com
one word, TPB!!
not that im getting it, im waiting for Snow Leopard
medopal
Yes, people - you do have to update your shit.
Boo-freaking-hoo. You have to download a free operating system and let it install itself while you do other stuff.
I forgot it was on my BootCamp all along. I guess I can just delete the partition now.
