$US300 Virtual On Joysticks Are Faithful To The Original

You could buy the $US15 Xbox Live Arcade game Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram and play it with a regular controller. Or you could cowboy the fuck up and buy Hori’s $US323 dual joystick controller designed specifically for Virtual On.

This is the second design of these sticks, redesigned after fans complained that the first ones weren’t faithful enough to the Dreamcast original. And if any company needs to listen to the whines of fanboys, it’s a high-end Japanese peripheral company that makes $US300 controllers designed for $US15 games. [Insert Credit via Kotaku]

@AlphaUltima:Because the dreamcast sticks are super-rare and expensive on their own?

why didn't they just make a xbox > dreamcast converter for 5-15 quid insted of flogging us with another controller?

@Skeetz: Aw, c'mon. the screws make it more rugged looking. 'sides, this isn't going to be installed at an arcade, and there's no risk of random enterprising youths tearing out the guts.

@Xeno: True.. i see myself opening this just to snoop, and then stripping the screws a bit... and then scraping my hand.

@Save me: It would work great for Karate Champ. You know, when 1985 decides to make a roaring comeback.

@Skeetz: Some people like to see screws and the like. Makes modding easy.

Didn't I see this exact same controller in a James Bond movie, only in gold?

Man, when I was 8, I wanted to put a Virtual-on machine in my walk-in closet. That said, I imagine you could get the real thing for under $1000 now, if it's an older, more battered one.

I used to love this game in the arcade. I would dump in $1 per play back when I was a freshman in college.

Virtual On has this horrible history of rare, expensive controllers. Fun game, though. The joysticks do add to the experience, but I don't know anyone who can really justify $300+ for one game.

And this is coming from a guy who owns plenty of joysticks for fighting games.

There once was a boy named Jim,
a kid who was rather dim.
Jim was a fanboy to the core,
    and always wanted more.
    When he saw this controller
he had to sell a molar,
Just so he could buy this stick,
man, whoever priced this was a real dick.

For that much money it better have an "orifice" with a rumble feature.

Its hori so you know its a good stick but I dont see this being useful for any other game on the market. How many buttons does it have anyway?

Are they only going to make it after you order it? Seems like a wise choice to someone like me who doesnt know much about economics.

For 323 bucks I don't want to see mounting screws on TOP on the damn thing. What the eff?

LOL @ "cowboy the fuck up"

Does anyone have experience with these joysticks going down in price, or do they retain there value, I loved virtual on, but being an average income family man of 2 kids, could not afford to spend this much on a joystick.
