TuneWiki For IPhone Is Now Fully Armed And Operational

TuneWiki, one of our favourite mobile apps, is finally in the App Store in a non-gimped way with full access to your iTunes library (if you close it, it keeps playing through iPod even, like a fake background app).

You get subtitled lyrics (with translations), music maps showing where people are listening to what, internet radio, video search and you can “blip” what you’re listening to Twitter, Facebook or wherever kids hang out these days. It’s free, and definitely worth checking out. You can also grab it on Android or BlackBerry, if you’re so inclined. [iTunes]

@Nick: This is the Indian version I believe.

@Lite: is on a boat.: *at work so no sound.
is this a video of american indian thriller or asian indian thriller? 'cause, you know, there is a huge difference. there ain't no party like a cherokee party.

@tex210: Yeah, its just running off the iPod (native music player) so when you close tunewiki the ipod just keeps playing.

    That is pretty cool, actually.

This old calculator ain't got no bow! Girly man!

    I love translated lyrics!

It finally hit the app store, eh? Anything at all gimped about it? Because cydia's tunewiki goesn't work on my 3gs...

    'Fake' background apps?

@Enrique: Ah, but did it get 2 out of 3 ain't bad?

@OMG! Ponies!: Let's not mince words - the UI is completely unintuitive. Ah, how fondly I remember the lovely jailbreak TuneWiki app of yore.

  • PurpleTentacle

Pretty great app tbh. Though you don't get lyrics with YouTube vids like in the Android demo...

Anyone know how much data listening to radio stations through this or similar apps is likely to chew up?

Oh, I kind of wish Gizmodo was a little more consistent with giving us the price of these apps. Any chance you could call it out in the title?

Anyone with a 3GS experiencing lag on this app? My 3G definitely lags on it. I'd expect it to have more to do with the app's programming than my phone.

They need to do a little work on the UI. I played with it a bit on the train today and it struck me as a little laggy and not overly intuitive (in the same manner as Zune 3).

Other than that, it's pretty good.

Keep up the great work, matt. I know I tease the hell out of you but you're pretty much my main source for iPhone app recommendations.

@Lite: is on a boat.: LOL. They are hilarious.

  • Enrique

Just downloaded it. Pretty sweet app.

So far it's only batting .666 though, as I played Rocky Racoon (Beatles) and the lyrics it gave me were for Hot in Here (Nelly)...

Oh well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad... Anyone else seeing this issue with Rocky Racoon (or other songs)?

@Lite: is on a boat.: Last time I saw it (a year ago) it was the Mexican Thriller...

  • jayteemo

    just downloaded it.
    the UI isn't the greatest.
the song map is kinda flaky (doesn't show pins at certain zoom levels, verry slow to load)
it would be nice to have an online profile (as if we don't have enough of those already)
    otherwise it's a fun resource.

awesome, one more reason i'm not going back to jailbroken phone. Now they just need the smart shuffle thing (whatever it was called, it was awesome), and sbSettings... I'm guessing the latter won't happen, but being able to turn on/off 3G/BT/airplane with one swipe was awesome =/

Yes, just down loaded it before Apple changes their mind for some stupid what ever clause in the app agreement thing. One of my favs from JB.
