Three Tweaks iPhone Pricing Day Before Launch

Gizmodo AU

3-iphoneLooks like Three failed to make the impression they were hoping for with their iPhone pricing earlier this week, because they’ve gone and tweaked it. Fortunately, it’s a better deal for potential 3 customers.

As you can see, to get the new 3GS iPhone, you still need to hop on a $79 cap plan, but that $49 plan with a free 8GB 3G is pretty tempting too. And the fact that the monthly handset cost for all phones has been dropped dramatically is good news as well.

What do you think? Are these prices likely to make you swing towards 3 over the other networks?

Important to note is that they no longer offer the bonus 500MB of data on the $49 + 16GB 3GS plan, but this can be added to your plan for an extra $6.

Basically, you can have an a $49 cap, 16GB iPhone 3GS and 750MB of data for a total $60/month.

That’s pretty amazing, I was thinking to buy it on $49+18 for 32GB but now I will spend just $49+10. I think three rocks, I have iPhone 3G 16GB now and I use it with three, and 3G speed is awesome. So, I will definitely go with this plan… ‘Three. I am coming keep your doors WIDE OPEN’ :)
    Cheers!!

Does anyone know how how it works when you go out of 3s mobile broadband network area with your phone?
Can you set it so you just get calls when roaming, or will you up for the 50c/Mb when you recieve emails etc.

You can turn off data roaming on the iPhone network settings page.

I waited 2 years for 3 to get the iPhone and last month finally gave up and went vodafone. Why took them so long. You can’t just treat customers like mushrooms!

Interestingly 3 sent a note to their premium service team stating that if people want to move to the iPhone they CANNOT get a discount on their remaining handset installments (which is annoying as 2 days ago they offered me $100 off my remaining handset installments). They CAN get a discount on their installments if they want to buy another phone – just not on the iPhone 3G. This Apple tax is popping up everywhere!

Ok, so they wont pay out handsets. What if you are on an existing contract with them. As I am currently with three with an iphone and bought the $49/month package with $300 dollars worth of credit. I am seriously looking at switching over as the 16GB 3gs with the extra $300 of credit seems like a good deal.

Damn! And here’s me sitting here wondering, ‘If I call them and make a fuss maybe they’ll let me go on the iPhone plan since it’s $40 more per month than my current plan… yeah… it’s only good business to offer perks to your loyal customers.’ I don’t know what I expected though, they’re pretty hopeless (like all telcos) with customer relations.
They do have good phones on good deals but they sure as heck won’t offer you any insurance, which is why I’m stuck paying a fortune for the next year with them after drowning my phone.
And their zone is pretty small, I’ve found, so if you travel you’re probably better off with Optus.

Did anyone read in terms and conditions

What are the chances they will do the same deal for the HTC Hero if they get it … I am happy to wait for the Hero but if I can’t get similar pricing I will just go with the iPhone. Three rocks …

    @ItsMe

The $199 unlocking fee applies to prepaid handsets only. If you take it on a postpaid plan (or purchase it outright) unlocking is free.

To those complaining existing customers don’t get anything, the majority of 3′s customers can get it on a $15 discount after finishing month 15 of your existing contract, bringing the price from $30, $35 and $40 down to $15, $20 and $25 for the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB iPhones respectively. Like I said, the majority of customers should be eligible for this, but you’d need to go to a 3Store or ask their customer care line to confirm if you qualify.

Like I said before, I will wait my contract expire then go to Apple website, purchase the 16GB 3GS and choose whoever has the best deal at that moment, but definitely not going back to THREE as their customer service is very very bad, not saying others is good, but when you have to their customer centre in India, you know what you get, mate!!!!

I upgraded yesterday, as an existing Three customer, and as I don’t make many calls, I chose to stay on my $29 plan and pay an additional $40 a month for a 16gb 3GS. I was very pleased when the girl who served me told me they would be giving me a $20 credit per month for being loyal! That means I get the 1gb data allowance while only paying $49pm. Suits me perfectly.

Be very careful of Three’s roaming charges. Yes you can disable it but as a current Three customer I can tell you their 3G zone is INCREDIBLY SMALL and what’s the point of an iPhone if there’s no APN?

I live in Melbourne and due to the iPhone release and outrageous roaming charges I started watching my roaming status on my Nokia E61i, and while in South Yarra, Three’s fantastic but I noticed I started roaming on Telstra in Chadstone and Brighton. In my opinion, this is still metropolitan Melbourne.

This is potentially a limitation with my Nokia but to be safe I went with Vodafone. If you’re an RACV customer you get 10% off + 2 free months =>

$62.10/month: 400 cap, 1000mb, visual voice mail, tethering.

Keeping my money in my wallet until I see HTC Hero available, just hoping the plans will be as reasonable.

It’s also worth noting they have NO STOCK of 16 and 32 gig iphones- not in store, nor online. Great launch. The online form “inform me when they are available” has email OR mob number to inform you when there’s stock- except the email address is compulsory- so not quite an “OR” option.

    FAIL.
