Looks like snoozing does in fact lead to losing, at least when it comes to buying an iPhone from 3. We’re getting reports from readers that despite the fact the new iPhone only went on sale through 3 today, they’ve already sold out of the handset. Not only that, but they have no idea when (or “if ever” as they told one tipster) they’ll be getting more stock.
Naturally, we’ve contacted Three to try and find out what the situation is. We’ll update when we hear back.UPDATE: Just heard back from Three. Here’s their official response:
3 confirms that current demand for the new iPhone 3G S is causing some stock shortages in a number of 3 stores, dealers and via www.three.com.au. 3 expects current stocks of the iPhone 3G S to be sold out this weekend. Stock of the iPhone 3G 8GB is still available.
3 advises customers who are interested in purchasing an iPhone 3G S to register their interest at www.three.com.au/iphonestock and we will advise them via email or SMS when stocks are available.

Friday, July 17, 2009 at 3:37 PMI ordered my iphone 3GS from 3 over the phone last night. I’m an existing customer. Yesterday arvo I got an email that said I’d get a discount for the 16gb but only if I ordered over the phone (which I presumed was to try and control today’s rush to some extent). I waited on the phone for about 40 minutes till I was put through to a girl who was really helpful and efficient (thankfully, after that long wait) and I should have it delivered by Mon/Tue. She said the 32gb was out of stock.

Friday, July 17, 2009 at 6:20 PMProbably a result of offering those people who’d registered for an email update first dibs. I got mine yesterday, but only after going to one store at about 1pm and finding they were sold out of their allotment.

Friday, July 17, 2009 at 9:17 PMI rang three at my local store in chadstone in victoria at 9:02 this morning. the only phone they had left was a 32gb black. which is exactly what i wanted. i was already at work on the otherside of the city, and she couldn’t hold it for me. i was almost in tears.
she did tell me however that they would have stock again in two weeks time.

Friday, July 17, 2009 at 10:06 PM3 + iPhone = FAIL
Each store got between 2 and 4 of each model. Gossip has it they thought they wouldn’t sell any, and only got Voda’s leftovers.

Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 9:56 AMI hardly count selling out iPhone stock within a day as FAIL.
All this means is that Three’s iPhone pricing has been such a hit that it’s managed to sell out while Optus, Voda and Telstra haven’t.
Don’t be too quick to make judgement.

Rubbish, the store I work at had plenty (far more than (2-4), we knew we would sell plenty, and had as many in stock as possible. Regardless of how many we had, they still would have sold out quicly, as did Optus, Vodafone and Telstra on day 1.

Monday, July 20, 2009 at 1:40 PMI was promised by the 3 phone sales lady that my 3G Iphone 16 Gig will be delivered on 20.07.09. So I didn’t bother going to the shops the first thing on 17th. Today I am told that they are out of stock and the delivery may take upto two weeks. This is apalling customer service. 3 guys don’t make promises you can’t keep. I have been a loyal customer for almost 10 years, but now I am thinking of taking my business elsewhere

Monday, July 20, 2009 at 11:41 PMI like the fact that the “iPhone 3GS Out Of Stock” posters were pretty much the first iPhone branded posters in most 3 shops! They obviously knew they would sell out pretty quickly, so they can’t have had a huge amount of stock available. Also a 3 store employee told me a week back about lots of congestion on the 3 network in built up areas (city, hornsby, parramatta etc) due to lots of data users on the network (I had 5 or so calls drop out around Sydney that week!). I wonder what tens of thousands of iPhone users will do to the network quality…
