This May Be Nikon’s 2009/2010 Roadmap
Nikon’s 2009 AND 2010 roadmap may have been leaked on Grafika, detailing the upcoming bodies and lenses the company is working on.
Head to Nikon rumours for the full list, but the short of it is that the D3000 and the D300 with HD movie is coming in August, D700X in October, D4 and D400 in Q2 2010, and D4X in late 2010. Supposedly. [Nikon Rumors]

@dazzlezak: You people, hopefully unlike the management of Nikon and Canon, are extremely short sighted. Every gadget moves to smaller sizes, including cameras. As any intelligent person will ask, what's more important to the bottom line in the future. Being in a smallish slow-growth market or a nascent fast-growth market? Micro 4/3 is the future as the PQ will approach that of the 4/3 while the size and weight will decrease dramatically. What's not to like about that? What part of that do you not get? So what that most of the lenses are on 4/3?? The majority of the camera market is NOT in the DSLR.

@sulayman: Some of us use Yashicas and Rolleiflexes. What about us? You kids with your Mega Pickles and your pong and your arguing over brands.
@ajendus: If that follows Nikon's naming trend, it'll just cram more pixels down the bus. Not terribly interesting to me, as I'd prefer high speed burst mode and lower noise.
RaptorCK
@SumUp4U: Since that's a DX lens, it actually makes a bit of sense when you account for the crop factor. A fast 90-135mm zoom certainly doesn't strike me as a *bad* idea, at any rate...
RaptorCK
@Noobs-R-Us: Why would Nikon make anything in 4/3.
Any advanced amateur, pro, person who likes accessories made for your camera, etc. buys either Canon or Nikon.
Anything else is either extremely niche purpose (I loved my widelux moving lens wide angle, or stupid (see how many times in the last 30 years minolta/sony has changed their lens compatibility).
(this applies to camera systems (SLR) only)

@ajendus:
I'm in the same boat, but then again, it would have been the same no matter how long I waited. I'm sure this time next year we'll be reading about the fancy new D800 to replace the junk D700x we wouldn't have bought if only we knew the D800 was coming out.
I'm quite happy with my D700, and all the pictures I wouldn't have been able to take had I not bought it already.

Why build VR into the body when they can charge you more to have VR in each of your lenses?
I know, I want it too.
crash42j
@Odinger Mitchell: Keep it...
VR built in inside the body please.
@trailingedge:
Yeah. FX is great.
But if you don't wanna spend $2700 on a D700 body... DX is fine.
great what am isupposed to do with my D200 now :(
Odinger Mitchell
@uRbAnlP: I love mine too, but I'd be tempted by an improved model at the same great price. I could even see myself with both. Hope the D40 understands that a little threesome action doesn't mean the love is gone.
@SumUp4U: 60-90mm f/2 (with VR!) sounds like a pretty versatile lens for portraits. And yes, an f/2 zoom would be innovative no matter how short the zoom range.

Awww... and I just got a D700. Boooo! HAHA Still love it and will be a perfect camera for me but damn... D700X?!
ajendus
@sulayman: I'd love to be that guy with the 'Blad!
Yes I do use a Canon, but I'm not a fanboy. Nikon makes awesome cameras. I was just commenting on their rivalry and on how much worth it is for a company to have it's rival's roadmap in their hands.
DX format is dead in my eyes!
trailingedge
@Noobs-R-Us: Thats an awful idea.
Nikon and Canon exists because the second you buy a few of their lenses, you are a Nikon/Canon user for life (most of the time). That and they make fantastic cameras and lenses.
Besides, 4/3's is still brand new and has a handful of lenses, compared to the hundreds of lenses available for either Nikon or Canon. Why make a camera for a standard that might not even take off? Its better to make a smaller bodied DSLR instead of giving assistance to a format that is your competition.

@protohiro: Gotcha there! I use Vista which it totally inferior to everything. So there!
NurseDave
@krische:
I wouldn't ditch my D40 for anything. I just love that camera so much.
uRbAnlP
@NurseDave: You would say that. You probably use windows 7, totally inferior to snow leopard.
protohiro
@b33g33:
I will definitely buy before that. I was thinking about getting a D90, to add basic HD capabilities to my current setup. Now that multiple new HD cameras are coming, I have to wait an see. And I think I will lean towards the FX Sensor.
@sulayman: Heaven forbid this take any space from the iPhone/pre threads!
NurseDave
@Noobs-R-Us: Why would Nikon make lenses for a system it doesn't use? Or switch to a whole new system just because it's starting to gain popularity in certain circles?
So many FX lenses, so little money.
Can't wait for the 24-135mm. It's slow, but at least it'll be cheap.
@m4ximusprim3: It's not meant to be versatile, it's meant to be fast. The zoom is just an added bonus. Quick - name as many zoom f/2 lenses as you can.
@MrThunderfield: Blah blah blah blah blah. Can people shut up about the whole Nikon/Canon bullshit already? IT'S A CAMERA. IT TAKES PICTURES. I use Nikon. You use Canon. That guy uses a Blad. Who the hell cares what you use, so long as you know how to use it?
@SumUp4U:
Zoom range?
PanhandleJoe
There better be a micro 4/3 in there somewhere or they will lose their shirts.
Noobs-R-Us
@SumUp4U: Now you too can take pictures standing kind of medium range to vaguely medium far from your subject! how useful.
m4ximusprim3
At last. If this is true, I will be saving $2K for the next 70-200.
@jpitsch:
I would not buy in the next 2 years. Wait till the next roadmap is leaked in 2012.
@MrThunderfield:
LOL ... yes, they've been doing such a bang-up job of that lately. Maybe they should focus (sic) on fixing up their own issues with focusing and banding first?
@MrThunderfield: Really? Where's their answer to the D3x?
vqro
Any replacement for the D40?
krische
Thanks for the update, now I know to wait instead of buying a new Nikon.
DX 60mm-95mm F2? That is by far the strangest focus range I've ever heard of.
The d4x probably will be in 2011 if the d4 is in 2010. The X cameras usually get released 1 year later.
nosauten
@MrThunderfield: Lol @ the second part :D
Now it's the appropriate time for Canon to send a big "THANK YOU" card to them.
Then go ahead and best their every spec.
sigh....so many nice Nikons, so few sources of cheap stolen ones....
That looks like it could rival Hubble.
