Sony Ericsson Kiki Concept

Mobil delivered this rendering of Kiki, a Sony Ericsson phone with a projected display and um, presumably, somewhere, a keypad. I like green. People need to make more green handsets. [Mobil via Engadget]

    @Markarian: Agreed, the iPhone screen attracts grease like no tomorrow :(

  • Jonhy

    This looks like an odd phone but in a good way. I could see myself using this for about a week the getting bored. Phone is unique, just not unique enough to keep your attention

  • rainbowblack

    I've never been fond of sonys phone designs as of late. thank goodness it's only a concept because that things is ugly beyond belief, it's screen looks interesting though

  • knottydon

    just so you know, KIKI is a Tagalog word that means Va-Jay-Jay.

    So this will be a hoot in the Philippines:

    "May I use your KIKI?" can actually become a pickup line.

    @yogibimbi: Propriety connector on bottom of iPhone. Fail
    Propriety connector on right of Samsung ( they used Microi-USB last gen too) fail. I suppose mroe fail for chanigng from micro-USB

    p.s we are not in the micro-USB revolution yet.

    @PN - Artest->Ariza: Buttons are the way to go.

    @Michai: argeed.

    Word on the street is green is the new black, move over Mr.King

  • yogibimbi

    proprietary Sony power connector on the left. Fail.

    @PN - Artest->Ariza: I love my iPhone, but I'd love it a hell of a lot more with a G1-style fold out keyboard.

  • Lazzzara

    Is that a monochrome screen?

    Excuse me for not being excited.

    I'd much rather have a full colour touchscreen for my mobile web browsing.

    Lazzzara

  • Beastage

    @PN - Artest->Ariza: lets not forget one hand use of the phone, smaller phones, lighter... like the majority of the market.

  • jamesuschrist

    WHY the horrible proprietary port, SE, WHY?

  • Methusalen

    @Joshua Tuttle: I was thinking something similar, since every phone I've had has had the nub on the 5 key. If you look, there are 4 green strips; each of which would correspond to the keys on a cellphone. I think the keypad will illuminate underneath somehow depending on it's function, especially since this is a Sony Ericsson phone.

    Methusalen

  • deanbmmv

    @Husher: yeah the nub will be a finder, see my above response on why button phones are still good n needed.

  • deanbmmv

    @Husher: Button phones in general are though.

  • Jarek James

    I must say that is an awesome screen but I really don't like sony phones this is the only one that has caught my interest.

    Jarek James

  • Joshua Tuttle

    @Husher: or as I was thinking it was a location finder. You know how the keys "F" and "J" have little nubs on a keyboard. "5" on most phones also have a similar nub defiantly helps with texting in class.

    It looks like the top is a cover that opens up to the back side and it has the keys underneath it. Weird.

  • Husher

    @deanbmmv:

    or it opens up. that tab in the middles looks like a hook for a thumb nail.

    Husher

  • Husher

    @deanbmmv:
    cheaper design?

    *checks the title*

    sony ericsson phones arnt cheap.

    Husher

  • Dallifornia

    @PN - Artest->Ariza: gaming. fat fingers. cheaper cheaper cheaper. less energy. there is a market for the jitterbug, you know.

    Dallifornia

  • Husher

    the design reminds me of bamboo for some reason. i wouldn't be shock if the keypad was soft touch keys. as for the projection it could be cool however i dont think it would work well in the day light. or the lamp section of a home depot

    Husher

  • TheCrudMan

    @PN - Artest->Ariza:
    Buttons are amazing are you freaking kidding?

    TheCrudMan

  • deanbmmv

    I would guess the green strips illuminate with various button interface's depending on the application at hand, so numbers for call,s play n rewind n that lot for music, arrows for navigation?

  • deanbmmv

    @PN - Artest->Ariza: Cheaper design, generally more durable, easier to fix, better for blind people and people who need/want the touch of buttons under their hand.
    I know it's quite nice but touch isn't for everyone or every circumstance.

  • PN - Artest->Ariza

    Maybe its just me but I feel as though from now on we should do touchscreen only. Buttons should not be used in new phones and gadgets. I don't know about this phone but i see three buttons on the cover and it's a future concept.

    Benefits of touchscreen are much more then the ones of button phones.
