Oversized Solar-Powered LED Flowers Make For An Ostentatious Lawn

Converting things that are out in the sun to run off solar power makes a lot of sense, like lawn ornaments, these flowers or air conditioning units. Zambonis? Less so. [OGE Gallery via Mocoloco via BBG]

@Duckspwn: No, there was no sarcasm, just perhaps some cynicism - apparently misplaced as I'm now properly approved (it wasn't showing up for me before). Just took a bit, and 2 approved/promoted posts in this newfangled system...

    Thanks & cheers.

Well if that isn't going to spook someone on drugs, I don't know what is. 'Sam. Hold my hand. I can't tell if i've come down or not. Tell me i'm safe. TELL ME IM SAFE.'

@DPeezy: Hm, that is odd, you must be approved by now, since your reply came up nice and not red. And I can't quite tell if there should be a /sarcasm somewhere in your post... my sarcaso-meter is malfunctioning today.

I thought they were gigantic bugs.

These look better than those faux Victorian lamps the city is always putting in to improve the park. They look like they'd have enough power for pedestrian lighting. Perfect for an art park with sculptures and reflecting pools etc.

@Duckspwn_Insignificant Commenter: ouch, the Giz commenting system biting the "star" hand that feeds it. Craziness.

I still find it odd that my individual comment can be approved, yet overall, as a user, I'm not approved for commenting...

I think its beautiful, just not exactly practical. Maybe for large "gardens" that people would pay money to go see, but I don't ever see this getting to the commercial world. Meaning for houses, residential, hospitals etc.

@92BuickLeSabre: "Hmmm, never heard of Erasure before, I'll just google that... OMFG". The feather boa will haunt my nightmares for weeks to come.

@DPeezy: Hey, I didn't promote, I merely approved. What kind of comment system mutiny is this? Remember Giz commenting system, this is symbiotic. You keep me happy, post my comments, be nice, I promise I won't find your server and smash you.

    What a fantastic idea.
We need to do this to public areas such as parks, parking lots, etc. which are all exposed to sunlight during the day and then could use the stored up energy to provide safety lighting during the night. Obviously, you'd have backups in-case, but just imagine how much power we could save...

It's only a matter of time before they install a seriously overpriced version of this somewhere in NYC.

Reminds me of an Erasure concert.

    But slightly less penis-y.
