Solar Weather Station Is Second Greenest Way To Check Forecast

As far as weather stations go, the +ECO Clima Control weather station is pretty enough to put out in the open—and its wealth of features are completely powered by the sun.

•Built-in solar panel converts sunlight energy into electrical energy for the 600mAH rechargeable battery
•Future weather forecast with graphical icons: Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy and Snowy
•Displays temperature and humidity for up to three different remote locations
•Radio-controlled clock and calendar
•LED backlight and mold alert alarm

The problem is I find weather forecasts to be largely unreliable. All I need is a little observation and the unparalleled scientific accuracy of my trick knee. [Oregon Scientific via Gearlog]

my question: can you see that one in the dark without touching it to turn on a backlite?

frikin' weather center manufacturers: make one you can see in the dadgum dark!

These devices are quite clever, but only seem to really excel at forecasting the CURRENT weather.

    I still love 'em though.
What weather geek would be without a few of these things?

Say what you will, but despite my niece's best efforts, the OS digital camera she has still works after many years of abuse ... I mean love. Eats the hell out of batteries, but...

The main unit is the only thing that is solar powered. All the remote stations need batteries. Not so green after all now is it?

OregonScientific is a terrible compny- they sell crap that is not even close to calibrated and then claim that because it is "consumer electronics" it does not require accuracy- just call 'em and ask as I have several times in the past. Buy the stuff at your own risk- these guys sell garbage at mega profit.

It pisses me off when companies manufacture these elaborate icon-changing weather thermometers. How about something useful like adding weather radio? The ability to warn of severe weather alerts? I could give less than a shit about a machine that shows that it's sunny outside. I want to know when a tornado is coming.

if I ever get stuck on a deserted island, I'm sure as hell am going to bring this.

Does your trick knee have a mold alert? Didn't think so.

my weather sensor always tells me a hotter temp when the suns beating on it. its supposed to not be affected... but when it says 65 degrees and its 22 in the middle of winter, im gonna call BS

I'd take a trick knee and the ability to look outside the window over this thing any day. The "feature" of solar power just makes it that much more pointless.

But doesn't the fact that it is made out of plastic sorta.. you know.. defeat the whole green point?

I mean, you are going to keep this thing 2 years, tops. Then it goes on to a landfill then Wall-e has to come find it, then you have to make him work.

    Yup, the glass is half-full.
