Additional BlackBerry Storm 2 rumours out this morning would appear to all but confirm our earlier belief earlier that the soon-to-be-released smartphone is ditching the problematic click touchscreen, and will add some much-desired wi-fi goodness.
The rumours also indicate that the Storm 2 is officially the BlackBerry 9550, complete with this:
– CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A
- Quad-band GSM/EDGE
- Single-band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz only)
- Wi-Fi b,g
- 3.2 megapixel camera
- 360×480 resolution capacitive screen
- OS 5.0
We had originally thought the Storm 2—er 9550—was going to arrive in June at Verizon, maybe, but that obviously didn’t happen. Shall we try “sometime in July” on for size? [BGR]

Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:03 PMI was going to get the original Storm, then got all excited when I heard about the Storm 2. What a disappointment, there’s hardly any difference between them. I’m an Alltel customer and they’re the *only* ones with a tower in my (small) town. They’ll be completely switched to VZW in September IIRC. I think I’ll hold out and wait to see what Google Android phones they get instead. I’d love something with a 480×800 screen. 360×480 is somewhat painful to view most websites on. I’ll be using the phone more for browsing than email, and every review I’ve found shows that Android beats Blackberry for browsing anyways.
