Hollywood Is All Over The Head-Mounted Canon5D Mark II

Imagine the kind of HD magic you could film with a Canon5D MK II mounted on a helmet. The possibilities have not been lost on Hollywood apparently.

Rodney Charters, the Director for Photography on 24 expressed interest in it via an email sent to planet5D. He also believes that it may have been used on Ironman, although he has no confirmation on that. Either way it would make for some interesting fight and POV scenes, not to mention comical situations on set for anyone trying to pass through a doorway with one of these on. [planet5D]

    @betterdays:
    agreed. Although with my GH1 I have to worry about mud before rolling shutter with a shot like that...still like it better than 5d MkII.

    I don't think I could but my 5dmkII out like that, I still have separation anxiety!

    The Link for the article points to the "canon-5d-mark-ii" tag :(

    I guess if you really need an HD camera on your head this would work (for a short period of time cause that's got to be heavy), but for the rest of the world simple head cams like the GoPro are much more practical.

    Well, if only the 5D had 24p support. Hollywood *needs* 24p, and so many of us too. I hope Canon is listening.

  • betterdays

    Then you realize rolling shutter artifacts are too bad when head mounted, and you get back to CCD cameras.
    NEXT.

    EDIT : no BS, I have one, and without some form of steady support, the footage is crap. It's a fact.

    You'd get jellovision video thanks to the CMOS sensor? No reason to use a 5D mkII for this..seriously. 5D mkII has excellent low light and DOF performance...not something you really need on helmet mounted cam (fast lens for low light would make focus impossible.)

    *goes home and tries it with his GH1.*
