Glowing Vacuum Tube Is Actually A USB Sound Card

2:00PM July 1, 2009 | Dan Nosowitz

From the vaults of Brando comes this retro glowing vacuum tube that’s actually a little USB sound card.

It’s got both audio in and out, and could actually be kind of useful in certain situations. I know in my clumsier younger days, I once accidentally kicked an audio cable that was plugged into my computer’s audio out port, thoroughly destroying it, and bought a similar doodad because it was cheaper than getting my laptop repaired. At $US32, the “Tube Delight” could probably serve that same purpose, albeit with added garishness. [Brando via DVICE]

Interesting, Being an old audiophile I can not help but to love vaccum tubes. PreAmps, Tube power amps are some of the most expensive audio equipment around. Why? It all has to do with the prescence of the performer’s whom can sound real and in the room with you. Plus there’s a magic in the fact that the glow you see in the tube is actually the music it self. I wish I could be more scientific about it but it’s really all about the realism.
Different tubes of the same size can produce different results. Some have great high’s, some have a more in the room prescence. On more than one occasion I heard a wagon, the driver, each horse and horse beat travel from one side of my room to the other with such realism and detail you would have sworn they were in there with you. Performers can be uncanny in prescence.
I have NOT found many tubes that sounded good with rock and roll but if you like audiophile music, instrumentals, and Pink Floyd you might just become a tube junky. I would be interested in this Vaccum Tube card so write me back if there’s further information.
